At Dairy Queen, I chose an Oreo Blizzard cake I pulled directly out of the store’s freezer.
The exterior was absolutely beautiful, with detailing around the edges, piped borders, crushed Oreo cookies, and a chocolate drizzle.
I thought it was the most attractive out of the three cakes, which surprised me even more because it was the cheapest, too. The 8-inch round cake cost $28.99.

This final Dairy Queen ice cream cake that we tried was another cookie-flavored cake, and none other than Dairy Queen’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Blizzard Cake. This cake is created from Dairy Queen’s Iconic vanilla soft serve, a layer of crunch and fudge in the center, and on top of that, a thick helping of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Blizzard. The cake is coated in a white frosting, and finished with giant, round chocolate chip cookie dough pieces and a chocolate drizzle. The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Blizzard Cake can either be bought as an 8-inch or 10-inch round, and is great to help satisfy your cookie, ice cream, and cake cravings, all at once.
Of the three Dairy Queen ice cream cakes on this list, this one was our favorite. Even though none of the Dairy Queen cakes have any cake, they make up for that with their incredible soft serve ice cream and Blizzard flavors. The cookie dough in the Blizzard and on top of the cake was delicious and tasted just like frozen cookie dough we’d sneak from the bowl while making homemade cookies, or what we’d buy from the store. Besides the frosting, all the sweet flavors in this cake, the cookie dough Blizzard, vanilla ice cream, and the chocolate drizzle and fudge all complemented each other wonderfully, and if you’re getting an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen, this is the one we recommend.

Like a few other popular Ice cream brands out there, Baskin Robbins has a plentiful selection of Ice cream pies, cakes and other treats to choose from. The first Baskin Robbins entry we have on this list is their Standard Roll Cake. This cake is customizable, so we tried it as it is shown on the website: a chocolate chip ice cream rolled into a “cake roll” by a layer of chocolate cake, topped with a layer of fudge, nuts, and cherries.
While we love Baskin Robbins ice cream, and the ice cream in this cake was great, this was our least favorite ice cream cake from the chain. Individually, nothing tastes bad. Once again, the ice cream was amazing, and the cake was decent, as well. What we struggled to enjoy was the shape. We can only imagine how difficult it is to try to make a roll out of Ice cream, but in doing so, trying to eat this cake was an interesting experience, with our forks and spoons sometimes picking up just cake or ice cream, as opposed to a balanced forkful. While this was by far from the worst cake we had, we’d rather get a different cake from the 31 Flavors.

Finally, the cake is topped with whipped frosting, Oreos, and a fudge drizzle. This makes for a pretty appealing cookies and cream cake, don’t you think?
Like anything you can find at Baskin Robbins, this cake tasted great. There was enough cookie throughout the ice cream for us to tell it was actually cookies and cream, and not vanilla with Oreos in it. There also wasn’t an overbearing amount of chocolate, and what was there balanced out nicely with the ice cream. The cake itself was a little too sweet, and the chocolate didn’t taste as chocolatey as the fudge or drizzle, so we had to take some points off there. Otherwise, Baskin Robbins has a pretty solid Oreo ice cream cake, and we recommend trying it the next time you’re at the ice cream shop.

How I Tested The Ice Cream Cakes
Because each brand offers so many different types of cakes and flavors, I decided to limit myself to as classic of ice cream cake flavors as possible, which, based on my many years of ice cream cake consumption, means some variation of chocolate, vanilla, and chocolate cookies. I decided not to include cakes with actual cake in them, as not all of the brands I wanted to try offer them. Finally, although there are lots of local ice cream shops that Im sure make a delicious cake, I decided to limit my test to larger nationwide chains that are accessible to most of our readers.
I judged each cake based on the quality and flavor of the ice cream itself, the distribution and quality of the filling, the icing, and the overall visual appeal. There was one clear winner. Lets take a look.

This cake was a significant departure from the other two. As a coffee ice cream lover, I was immediately intrigued by the idea of a cake made up of coffee-flavored ice cream rippled with chocolate and toasted almonds on a fudge-topped chocolate cookie crust. This was definitely a more sophisticated ice cream cake, including the more careful packaging to preserve the presentation. My favorite part was the cookie crust. It brought a little nostalgia to the whole thing, which made it fun to eat. If I needed a quick grocery store dessert for an event, I wouldnt hesitate to stop and pick one of these up. My husband was definitely also a fan.
