Amazon Canada has chosen Richmond Hill as the home of its newest delivery station.

The 20,800-square-metre facility is being constructed on 10.85 hectares of land adjacent to Highway 404 in the Headford Business Park just north of 16th Avenue. It will serve as the “last mile” of Amazon’s order fulfilment process, providing service to customers throughout the central York Region.

“I am excited to welcome Amazon to Richmond Hill and pleased with the new jobs and opportunities they bring to our city! It is another example of a global company recognizing and valuing Richmond Hill as a great place to live, work and do business,” Acting Mayor Joe DiPaola announced at the annual state of the city address on Oct. 22.

Targeted to open in early 2023, the new facility is expected to bring 400 new jobs to the city, including over 200 full-time positions, which offer comprehensive benefits starting on day one.

The online retailer is also committed to fully transitioning its fleet at the Richmond Hill facility to electric vehicles by 2030, supporting the Richmond Hill council’s strategic priority to balance growth and green.

“Amazon’s new facility represents a significant investment in Richmond Hill. This is great news for our community and our local economy as we work to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ward 6 Coun. Godwin Chan, chair of Richmond Hill Economic Development Committee.
