In my experience, the best type of cake to use for a cake smash is a white 6-inch cake. It is still large enough to be decorated beautifully but not so big that it takes over the baby and demands the focus of the image. When deciding the design for your cake, I suggest avoiding an abundant amount of red or black frosting. Those colors tend to not photograph well once they are smeared all over the baby. What Cake Smash Photography Packages Do You Offer
We offer different packages and all the packages are based on time. What does it mean for you? The longer duration of the session -the more images you gonna get.
The first package is our mini session and the session time is about 20 minutes. We do capture baby images only on one theme without an outfit change.
The one outfit change is welcome for 45 minutes package. We will take the baby pictures on a plain backdrop with different props and cake smashing photos on a different backdrop.
The next 1 hr package is suitable for family and baby photography. We create family portraits, baby photos on a plain backdrop. The last part of the session is the cake smash.
Our top package is about the smash and splash. The package is identical to 1 HR photoshoot, but the bathtub photos captured as well.
The bottom line it all depends on the family goal and the available budget.

How Do We Have To Be Prepared For To Cake Smash Photography Photo Session
- Please plan the photo session time when your baby is active.
- Please bring the toys that your kid loves.
- Please advise what music your kid like or bring the music with you.
- You can connect your cell to our music centre as well.
- Not every baby reacts the way that you do expect for a photography session, even when there is a great colourful cake involved!
- The cakes are sweet and your kid might not be used to that.
- Most Cakes are covered in soft icing and some children just dont like to get messy.
- Our advice is to try it out with a cupcake first and verify how your kid reacts to messy play and a bit of sweetness.
- They dont normally dive into the cake like you might think and sometimes need a bit of direction from parents.
- We have no problem getting the shots that we need. We have a lot of experience but if the cake is not a hit the bathtub always so doesnt worry!

What Props/accessories Do You Need On Hand For A Cake Smash
I use balloon garlands in a lot of my cake smashes. Plus I always have balloon garland tape, glue dots, and hundreds of balloons on hand. I also always wrap my cake smashes up with a warm bubble bath in a clawfoot tub. So I always have bubbles, a bubble machine, a bubble bath, and warm fluffy towels on hand to wrap up the session. I also have tons of different cake stands to fit with the different themes I shoot.

Cake Smash Photo Shoot
So say youve spent all this money and time on this super cute setup, outfit, and cake and the child does not want anything to do with this, will not eat the cake, and will not even sit still in front of your set up to get a couple pictures.
What do you do?
- Well first lets try MUSIC, have a couple favorite songs ready just incase.
- Maybe try BUBBLES, have a cheap bubble wand on stand by!
- Take a little break if needed and come back to it later!
- You can try a bath instead .
- A small tub, bowl, bucket, or whatever you have that can hold a little water, set it right where you would set the cake and let them play!

I have shot hundreds of cake smashes but I am not sure I have a favorite theme. I think my favorite themes are the ones that mean something to the birthday boy/girl. Parents will usually choose a theme because it marks the moment of what their child is into during that particular time in their life. Some parents choose a cake smash theme to coordinate with the theme of the first birthday party. Then they have photos to accent the party decor. Other times, families chose themes with colors that complement their decor so they have gorgeous art to adorn their walls with. Its important when choosing a theme that you consider how you plan on using the images.

I always suggest to parents prior to the cake smash session to practice. Get a half dozen cupcakes and let your child play in the icing and cake. This way they will get used to the texture. Be prepared to get messy! At the end of a cake smash, there is icing everywhere including me and the parents.
