Andy Sole and his wife Denise Gianotti took over the former Pet Valu in Nelson’s Corner at 601 Route 206.

A Rutgers University graduate and central Jersey native Sole took a big leap leaving corporate America to run his own pet store franchise.

TRUSSVILLE Pet Supplies Plus has opened its newest location at 1672 Gadsden Highway. It will offer local pet parents a hassle-free way to find better products for their pets while saving them money and celebrating the fun of pet ownership.

In addition, the store will offer amenities such as four self-pet wash stations, grooming, a knowledgeable pet care team, and a carry-out service in which team members carry heavy items to neighbors cars.

The new store is owned by an entrepreneur, former worldwide model, and film producer, Barry Chase Foster. Raised in the Trussville area from 1960 to 1986, Foster modeled for brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Jockey, Marlboro, and he was the first Miller Genuine Draft Guy and acted and produced television. A Renaissance Man, Foster also worked in aesthetic pharmaceutical studies, marketing and sales. Still, he wanted to open a business in his hometown to fulfill his love and passion for the pet community.

It feels great to be back, as I truly love the state of Alabama, and Im honored to bring home a business that will provide a valuable need to our pet community while also providing additional jobs to the area, Foster said. JAMES CITY-A new pet supply store is opening in the Lightfoot Marketplace shopping center.

Pet Supplies Plus is taking over the storefront left vacant by Pet Valu as well as a neighboring suite. Pet Valu closed all of its U.S. locations in December.

This will be the second Pet Supplies Plus location for owners Scott and Roxanne Bobowicz, who opened their first store in Chesapeake in 2019. The new store will be nearly double the size of the old Pet Valu and is expected to open its doors in late summer.

We feel that the Lightfoot area really needs a local neighborhood pet store so that neighbors dont have to drive across town for their pet needs, Roxanne Bobowicz said.

Pet Supplies Plus is a franchise that sells pets such as fish, reptiles, hermit crabs, tarantulas, birds, guinea pigs, and hamsters.

Well also carry food, tanks, cages, and everything in between, Roxanne Bobowicz said.

The new pet store will also carry a variety of pet food for cats and dogs and feature a bakery with specialized treats including birthday cakes and cupcakes.

Neighbors will also be able to wash their dogs at Pet Supplies Plus, which will have a grooming station with a self-service dog wash.

No appointments are necessary, Roxanne Bobwicz said. You can come in and wash your dog and leave the mess behind.
