Traditional Sheet Cake Pans

Anyway, for traditional “sheet cakes”, I love Parrish Magic Line Pans. Actually, this is my favorite brand for all traditional cake pans ! They’re quality pans that bake evenly and beautifully. Magic Line pans also hold up for the long haul and do not warp even after thousands of runs through my oven.

Best of all, Magic Line pans also have super sharp corners for sheet and square cakes and I love that feature! With our recent move, I’ve had to split cake work between the new house and the old one. I didn’t have all of my sheet pans in one place to take pics for this post, so I only have the one size pictured.

But I actually have these three sizes:

A couple of times I’ve needed an odd size in between those and I’ll just slide two together… and have a 13×18 or 20×15. That’s what I did for this huge bank order a few years ago…

I baked 4 12×18 sheet cakes, then I stacked them 2 layers deep and pushed them together for a huge 24×18 cake that was over 4″ tall. That cake was a beast.

The Difference Between Full Half And Quarter Sheet Cake Sizes

What size is a full sheet cake?

Most bakers think of orders in terms of full, half, and quarter sheet cake pans, which can actually mean a handful of different sizes. As a result, it’s best to discuss the number of servings and the size of each serving instead. From there, you can determine which size pan will work best for the application.

Material And Heat Distribution

First and foremost, avoid purchasing stainless steel and aluminum steel since they have uneven heat distribution. It would be best if you bought bare aluminum because it performs well in heat conduction. In addition to that, it heats up and cools down quickly. For this reason, it begins baking when it goes into the hot oven. Then, stops baking when it comes out. Moreover, it gives you more control over how brown the bottom of the sheet cake will be, so it provides an excellent light color result.

Where Did You Find Your Full Sheet Pan

Updated 21 Feb 2007 , 9:02pmby elvis

I’m having the hardest time finding a full sheet pan. I’d like to find an 18x24x2 pan…and the closest I’ve come is a 16x24x2 or an 18x24x1. The 1″ height just seems to short for me.Where did you find your full sheet pan?

Try here. Their shipping is very reasonable. you can download their Adobe catalog or get on their mailing list and they will mail you one quarterly. I get most of my stuff from them.

Thanks! I’ve never seen this site before. They do have an 18×24 pan–they don’t mention the height but I may end up buying and then getting an extender if I need one.Does anyone make a sheetcake that’s just an inch tall? I don’t understand why so many of the pans are this height. ?? Anyway, thanks! If anyone else has info, I’d love to hear that too.

I always thought the full sheet was 16×24, I’ve never heard of an 18×24. Thanks for the site link!!!

I guess its one of those things that varies depending on who you ask. I happened to read some posts about an 18×24 full sheet and so that’s what I was looking for—nobody’s even ordered this size from me yet– I just want to be ready

I may have gotten mine off of ebay. You can be assured that the cake pan you would get from here is 18x24x2. You can always PM Jackie or Heath to verify the size.

The Best Baking Sheet

Baker

The Nordic Ware Natural Aluminum Commercial Bakers Half Sheet is the best all-purpose baking sheet weve found for everything from baking cookies to roasting vegetables. Over the past five years, weve spent more than 45 hours testing 15 sheet pans and cookie sheets. After making 24 batches of cookies, six pizzas, and many pounds of oven fries, we found that the Nordic Ware bakes as evenly as sheets twice the price and wont buckle at high heat like cheaper models.

Our pick

This sturdy, inexpensive sheet pan bakes evenly and will last for years.

*At the time of publishing, the price was $10.

We chose the Nordic Ware Bakers Half Sheet as our top baking sheet in our original 2013 review, and after years of heavy use at home and in our test kitchen, weve found it still lies flat and bakes cookies to an even golden brown. Some aluminum sheet pans may perform on a par with it, but the Nordic Ware consistently costs the least for a pan of its quality. Its a durable workhorse of a pan that can handle a wide variety of tasks, from roasting crisp oven fries to cooking a quick sheet pan dinner.

This 13-by-18-inch pan performs nearly as well and looks almost identical to our main pick but usually costs a few dollars more.

When it comes to determining how many servings you can get out of your sheet cake, youll first need to decide how large you want each piece to be. Typically, 2 x 2 or 2 x 3 pieces are suitable sizes for each portion. To figure out how many servings youll yield from a given pan, simply follow the formula below.

Who Should Get This

If you cook or bake at all, you should own a solid baking sheet. Really, you should own several. A quality rimmed baking sheet doesnt cost much, and its one of the most useful pans you can own. You need one for baking cookies of course, but its also great for roasting vegetables, making pizzas, toasting nuts, catching drips from a pie as it bakes, or cooking a quick sheet pan dinner.

If you go to a cookie party with home bakers, youre going to get a lot of cookies that are burned on the bottom and underdone on top, baker and cookbook author Alice Medrich told us, pointing to the prevalence of low-quality pans.
