Dairy Queen cake vegan copycat is a nostalgic dream come true! Chocolate and vanilla ice cream, an irresistible fudge and crunchy center, topped with whipped cream icing and sprinkles!

The Dairy Queen cake is iconic. It was the ultimate birthday cake. The first cake to make their homemade counterparts seem significantly less cool and desirable. I remember when friends would announce their upcoming birthday parties at school, one of the first questions would be what kind of cake they are having. There was always a lingering air of disappointment when Dairy Queen wasnt mentioned.

Apparently not much has changed. Every time my guys go to a party and ice cream cake is served, they are genuinely disappointed they couldnt have any. Whereas, with traditional desserts and cakes, they couldnt care less if they cant take part. They whine about how Dairy Queen doesnt offer lactose free, vegan friendly versions and how its depressing theyll never get to even try it.

Well, chisel out my mom award, because I have gone and created a vegan, gluten free version of the most beloved ice cream cake in the world!

My picky eaters 10th birthday is this week and with this whole quarantine thing destroying all his birthday party dreams, figured I would do whatever I could to at the very least satiate his dreams of finally sampling the greatest cake to ever come from a fast food joint.

Generally speaking, I find the frosting is too sweet, but the cake itself is moist and tasty. As an added bonus, Walmarts cakes are very affordable. Just like pretty much everything else at Walmart. So if you arent looking for anything fancy, and just want inexpensive cake, Walmart is probably a good option.

Ingredients And Standard Quality Definitions

Many countries have regulations controlling what can be described as ice cream.

In the U.S., the FDA rules state that to be described as “ice cream”, a product must have the following composition:

  • greater than 10% milk fat
  • 6 to 10% milk and non-fat milk solids: this component, also known as the milk solids-not-fat or serum solids, contains the proteins and carbohydrates found in milk

It generally also has:

  • 12 to 16% sweeteners: usually a combination of sucrose and glucose-based corn syrup sweeteners
  • 0.2 to 0.5% stabilizers and emulsifiers
  • 55 to 64% water, which comes from the milk or other ingredients.

These compositions are percentage by weight. Since ice cream can contain as much as half air by volume, these numbers may be reduced by as much as half if cited by volume. In terms of dietary considerations, the percentages by weight are more relevant.Even the low-fat products have high caloric content: Ben and Jerry’s No-Fat Vanilla Fudge contains 150 calories per half-cup due to its high sugar content.

According to the Canadian Food and Drugs Act and Regulations, ice cream in Canada is divided into Ice cream mix and Ice cream. Each have a different set of regulations.

Copycat Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cake, Dairy-free Option

A couple of birthdays ago my son asked for an ice cream cake. Since then Ive made them for almost all of our birthdays. You see, they are just SOOO easy to put together yet they are impressive! I even made one for my own birthday this year-I like them that much!

All of the steps are easy and short, especially because there is no real baked cake in this ice cream cake. There are just several hours between steps with all of the freezing. But its worth it, I tell you, and its always a win at parties!

You can customize the cake to the liking and allergies of the birthday boy or girl. For the inside of the cake instead of chocolate sandwich cookies like Oreos, Newmans-O, or Jo-Jos , you could used most chocolate candies like peanut butter cups, M& Ms, Kit Kat, or their favorite cookies, etcAnd you could use different flavors of ice cream. Whatever you do, just think about how the flavors work together. The chocolate drops pictured here are not dairy-free and can be found at Trader Joes .

I also found that So Delicious Dairy Free Coco Whip doesnt have the aftertaste that the canned Trader Joes Coconut Cream may have .

I use a 10 inch spring form pan which works quite swimmingly. Here I didnt use parchment paper, but Ive made enough of these to know that you want to use parchment paper, or youll end up with a melty mess.

Here is a cake I made a couple of 4th of Julys ago.

That Frozen Treat From Dairy Queen Not Really Ice Cream

By: Jeremy Glass | Updated: Apr 9, 2021

There’s a big secret hiding in plain sight within the walls of one of America’s most beloved fast-food chains. Dairy Queen purveyors of the legendary Blizzard doesn’t actually sell ice cream.

Wait, what? Dairy Queen doesn’t sell ice cream? Technically no. Not according to regulations set by the Food and Drug Administration , anyway.

Those strict FDA guidelines mean Dairy Queen’s famous frozen treats can’t be classified as ice cream. That’s why the chain uses the term “soft serve” instead. While this dessert discovery may be a bombshell to you, Dairy Queen has not only recognized, but also embraced it throughout its 75-year history

It has to do with the content of milk fat. The FDA says to be considered an “ice cream” the product must contain “not less than 10 percent milkfat, nor less than 10 percent nonfat milk solids.” Dairy Queen’s soft serve, well, just doesn’t.

Dairy Queen does a good job of explaining on its website why it doesn’t use the term ice cream on its menu: “To be categorized as ice cream, the minimum butterfat content must be 10 percent, and our soft serve has only 5 percent butterfat content.” And even though the FDA has changed its definition of what qualifies as ice cream over the years, Dairy Queen’s soft serve recipe has always stayed the same.
