The nocturnally minded cookie company, open daily from noon until midnight, comes from 26-year-old semipro bodybuilder Jonathan Mordechai. The first-time business owner and baker opened Midnight Cookies in April in a strip mall next to T.Y. Park.
Inspired by late-night cookie shops in Miami and Miami Beach, Mordechai opened Midnight Cookies to give Hollywood residents such as himself sweet satisfaction.
I couldnt see myself driving all the way down there every time I wanted cookies, says Mordechai, who says he sells about 1,000 cookies per week thanks to the bakerys word of mouth.
On a recent Tuesday night, the vibe inside Midnight Cookies and Cream crackled with sugar-amped teenagers and 20-somethings ogling the shops 13 fancy cookies, which include Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Crème Brulee and Birthday Cake. A mixing bowl stuffed with 50 pounds of cookie dough sat on a prep table behind Mordechai I go through eight of these a week, he says as he blended milkshakes and scooped ice cream into a cookie sandwich.
But why midnight? Who needs a cookie after 11:30 p.m., anyway? People who like weed, Mordechai says.
