While this Homemade Cake Mix is perfect for a 13×9 cake, it can also be used anytime you have a recipe that calls for a recipe with cake mix cake mix cookies, cake mix peach cobbler dump cake, or even cake mix brownies.
Seriously, its one of my favorite homemade mixes.
Mrs Needleman’s Buttermilk Coffee Cake Recipe
Directions Instructions Checklist Step 1 Preheat oven to 325°. Step 2 Stir together Streusel Topping ingredients in a small bowl until combined. Set aside. Step 3 Cream butter and sugar at medium speed with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9-inch by 13-inch baking pan. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugars, salt, nutmeg, and oil by hand or on the lowest speed of a mixer. Reserve ½ cup for the topping. To the flour mixture left in the mixing bowl, add the eggs, soda, and buttermilk. Mix on the lowest speed until just blended.
Two Types Of Naked Cakes
There are 2 types of naked cakes. The cake in todays photos is called a semi-naked or half dressed cake. Theres a minimal amount of frosting swiped around the sides. So in other words, a semi-naked cake is a crumb-coated cake. Or you can simplify the design even further with a true naked cake. This means the sides of the cake are bare like my fresh berry cream cake. Both styles are simple, approachable, and beautiful.

I wanted to share four things you can make with this cake mix a vanilla cake, a chocolate cake, a Sunny Yellow cake, and a cobbler. - 3 1/3 cups Homemade Cake Mix
- 3/4 cup milk
- Pour pie filling into a 9×13 pan. Sprinkle Homemade Cake Mix over the pie filling.

What Makes Chocolate Cake Moist
This perfect combination of oil, milk and boiling water makes this recipe stand out without having to use melted chocolate. The fats in the oil, protein in milk and temperature of the water makes the chocolate flavour develop nicely while baking and providing the essentials for that moist crumb youre looking for.
Dont over-mix OR over-bake. This chocolate cake only needs about 30-35 minutes in the oven, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
Can I Just Use Coconut Flour
No. This is not the ideal recipe to experiment with this because of the amount and cost of ingredients.
As a rule of thumb, I would use the amount of coconut flour stated for almond flour about 80 grams / a scant cup. But I think you would also need to add about 2 additional eggs to achieve the same fluffiness.

Sunny Yellow Cake With Orange Blossom Frosting
For this post I decided to make the Sunny Yellow Cake. I love the bright, citrus flavors of this cake. The cake itself is flavored with lemon extract and the frosting has orange zest and orange juice. Each bite is just bursting with flavor! I decorated with orange slices, clementine slices, and chamomile flowers.

- This easy vanilla cake recipe uses the 1-2-3-4 method which is from the 19th century. Its an easy method to remember the ratio of ingredients. 1 cup of butter, 2 cups of sugar, 3 cups of flour, and 4 eggs.
- I adjusted these quantities slightly to achieve the texture I was looking for. I used half a cup less sugar and a fourth cup less flour. This gave me a lighter cake that isnt overly sweet.
- Cake flour is used for a fine crumb and delicate cake texture.

How Do You Make A Cake From Scratch
Making a cake at home is incredibly easy! This recipe uses the creaming method to emulsify the ingredients. This also incorporates air to give the cake a light and fluffy texture.
The Batter It’s important to set the cold ingredients out for about 1 hour before you begin. The butter, eggs, and milk must be at room temperature in order for them to blend together properly.
The Frosting – The frosting is my very favorite basic vanilla buttercream. I have a dedicated post for the frosting. Be sure to pop over and read all my tips for silky smooth frosting that isn’t overly sweet tasting.

What Are The Key Ingredients For A Great Cheesecake
- Cream cheese: Specifically, full-fat cream cheese. Cheesecake is not the time to skimp.
- Sour cream: Most cheesecake recipes use either heavy cream or sour cream either will do the job of softening the texture of the cheese and adding some moisture. I prefer sour cream because I like the extra hit of sour tang it adds to the cake.
- Eggs: Three whole eggs hold the cheesecake together. I also add an extra yolk, which enhances the cakes velvety texture.

How Long Does Homemade Cake Mix Last
If you store this cake mix in an air-tight container it should last 10-12 weeks. Make sure to store it in a cool, dry place. If you bake the cake, you can freeze it for up to three months. The best way to freeze a cake is to freeze the layers separately. Wrap each cake layer in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil. Then, using a permanent marker, label the cake type and the date you put the cake in the freezer. When you are ready to serve, remove the cake from the wrap and frost while frozen. Then let thaw for about 30 minutes to an hour.
More Information About The Nigerian Cake Ingredients
The flour to use for your Nigerian CakeYou MUST use plain flour for you to have success with the Nigerian Cake recipe detailed on this page. I do not know what using a self-rising flour will do to your cake if you use it. The problem with self-rising flour is that they never state the amount of the leavening agent they added to the flour. This is why I prefer plain flour so that I have more control over the amount of baking powder that I add to the cake recipe.
The butter to use for you Nigerian CakeFor those living in Nigeria, please use baking butter NOT margarine. You should be able to buy baking butter from any shop that sells bakery ingredients. For my US audience whose butter comes in sticks. I don’t know the weight of 1 stick of butter. Maybe this is written on the wrapping so you can check it and then know how many sticks correspond to 1.1 lbs.Please do not melt the butter. Bring it out from the fridge the day before you make your Nigerian cake. This way, it will be soft enough for creaming on the day you’ll bake the cake.
SugarIf you think your granulated sugar is too coarse, you can grind it with a dry mill before adding it to the butter for creaming. You only need to grind it a little bit to reduce the size of the grains of sugar. This reduces the creaming time.
