Made with fluffy whipped mashed potato! OK, so its not something youd put on a cake for humans but this is for dogs remember!

I wanted a frosting that was dog friendly that looked just like vanilla buttercream so I could use it for sandwiching layers, frosting and piping. Most dog cake frosting recipes I found use yogurt and peanut butter which is too soft and also, too much of either of those ingredients is not good for dogs.

Solution: whipped mashed potato!! I got the idea from Meatloaf Cupcakes that I shared years ago where I piped on mashed potato swirls.

I use yogurt to give it a creamy soft buttercream frosting consistency because yogurt has probiotics in it which is good for dogs. But water works just as well!

Look how well it works as frosting for the cake! Its looks almost impossibly similar to real buttercream frosting!

Made with similar ingredients to a whole wheat carrot cake, my Dog Birthday Cake recipe is whipped up and baked just like a regular cake. The pup-friendly cake batter is super quick to whip up so celebrating your dogs birthday is no chore at all.

In one bowl I simply whisk together the ingredients then divide the batter between 2 small 6-inch tins. Filled with natural peanut butter , fresh carrots, and applesauce, this cake has lots of nourishing ingredients for your doggy. They love the flavor of the carrot and peanut butter. Please just make sure that the peanut butter you use is smooth, not salted, and free from xylitol.

Spoiled Dog Cake Recipe

• Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
• In a large bowl, combine flour and baking soda.
• In a separate bowl mix together vegetable oil, peanut butter, applesauce and pumpkin puree. Once combined, mix in egg and mix until combined.
• Combine wet and dry ingredients and stir until combined.
• Pour mixture into an 8″ round pan that has been greased with oil.
• Bake for approximately 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the cake springs back when pressed lightly.
• Allow to cool on a wire rack prior to removing from pan.
• After cooling, add frosting if desired.

Frosting

• Mix Greek yogurt and peanut butter until well combined. Spread over cake. If not serving immediately, store in refrigerator.
