This fruit cake is rich, moist and tastes amazing. An easy fruit cake recipe that uses soaked unsweetened fruit and nut mix. Skip the liquor for a family-friendly version! Perfect for gifting and feasting well beyond the holiday season!

Its an exciting time of the year as the holidays approach, especially for those of us who love baking up Christmas treats and all the merry feasting that follows.

With just 5 weeks to Christmas, everybody, that means its time for fruit cakes!

Now, I know lots of folks might consider November a little too late to be making good fruit cake. But let me just say, you can make a fabulous fruit cake youll be proud of, even at this time!

Youll have more than enough time to soak your favourite fruits and bake up this delicious fruit cake.

And if you love your cake a tad boozy, as I do, youll have at least a month to age it with liquor once a week till Christmas. This way, your fruit cake keeps moist as its flavour deepens and mellows.

Rich & Moist Fruit Cake

This fruit cake is made deliberately less sweet, but extra moist and chock full with a homemade fruit and nut mix.

For a family-friendly version, replace the soaking liquor with apple cider, unsweetened apple or orange juice, and skip moistening with alcohol.

If youre like me and cant think of making a fruit cake too early in the year, then this fruit cake recipe is meant for you! I hope youll enjoy this as much as we do!

BEATRICE Beatrice Bakery is celebrating an impressive milestone this year.

Grandmas Fruit and Nut Cake, the bakerys No. 1 seller, has been around for 100 years.

The recipe didnt originate at Beatrice Bakery Company, but the company is keeping the tradition alive with thousands of fruitcakes produced each year, making their way to holiday celebrations around the country.

It was 1917 when the Lantz brothers immigrated to the United States and settled in St. Louis, where they opened a bakery. Their grandmothers fruitcake recipe proved to be a hit with area residents, as well as a treasured family heirloom. When the brothers retired from the baking business, they needed to find a bakery that would carry on the tradition.

The Beatrice Bakery bought the recipe in the 1960s with a promise to never change it and, since 1963, the same ingredients have gone into the fruitcake, using the same cooking techniques and even some of the same equipment.

Keeping the recipe the same was not only a promise, but one of the reasons Grandmas Fruit and Nut Cake has such staying power.

Grandma Betty’s Family Fruit Cake

Beatrice Bakery Co. 2-lb Grandma’s Fruit Nut Cake on QVC

This recipe was passed down through the years and given to me by my Grandmother, Elizabeth Lydiard. We called her Grandma Betty. She passed away in 2001. She would have been thrilled to see it here on Just a Pinch. I have no idea how old this recipe is but my Grandmother was born in 1910. My mother and I perfected the mixing process in 2006 as we found adding the fruit last made it easier to mix. It has been said ancient Egyptians placed fruitcake on the tombs of loved ones, perhaps as food for the afterlife. But fruitcakes were not common until Roman times.

We Are America’s Most Beloved Brand Of Fruitcake

Overflowing with lush cherries, pineapple, and nuts, recreated from an Old World recipe, Grandma’s Fruitcake is blended and baked in a time-honored tradition that takes all afternoon. Made of fresh butter, egg yolks with plump cherries, candied pineapple, walnuts, almonds, pecans, and raisins. Grandma mellows this cake with the flavors and extracts of holiday spirits, curing the cakes to a traditional, festive finish.

How Should I Serve And Store My Cake

To ensure you experience the best dessert cake we have to offer, we recommend refrigerating your dessert cake for 24-48 hours before slicing and serving. Because our cakes are perishable, once they have been opened, rewrap in cellophane for lasting freshness.

Can I Use A Fruit Pre

Yes, you absolutely can! The quantity of the pre-mix should not exceed the total quantity of the individual dried fruits, by weight.

Different brands of pre-mixed fruit can vary in sugar content. Some can be cloyingly sweet. You should still macerate the fruit pre-mix in liquor or juice to soften and moisten them, as well as to rid of excess sugar.

About this producer

The Story Of Our Famous Fruitcake

Beatrice Bakery 3-lb Grandma’s Fruit & Nut Ring Cake on QVC

Our recipe dates to 1917 and has been a beloved tradition ever since. The handmade goodness was first introduced to the public in St. Louis, Missouri by two German immigrant brothers. The Lantz brothers owned and operated a bakery where they discovered a family fruitcake recipe in their grandmothers cookbook. The recipe took off, and the Lantz brothers soon found themselves searching for a bigger facility to produce their grandmothers recipe. In 1964, their search took them to Beatrice, Nebraska, and the current facility, nestled in Americas heartland.

The Nebraska bakery changed names and ownership several times before becoming nationally known as Beatrice Bakery Co in 2002. Despite the changes, the original fruitcake recipe remained the same.

We have been featured on QVC, Food Networks UNWRAPPED Holiday Favorites episode, A& E Biographys The House that Santa Built, on ABCs THE VIEWs Holiday Candies, Cookies and Cakes segment and received editorial recognition in Midwest Living magazine. Grandmas Fruitcake has been a tradition for many generations!

My Grandma died 60 years ago and I havent had fruitcake like hers, until I tried Beatrice Bakerys Fruit Cake. Lots of fruit held together by a small amount of cake and flavored with spirits, just like hers.
