Hersheys Chocolate Cake Recipe

Quite fittingly this homemade chocolate cake is often referred to as the Perfectly Chocolate Hersheys Chocolate Cake Recipe.

Let me tell you, this rich chocolate cake is indeed, perfect. Its like a chocolate experience.

This is a cake with intense chocolate flavor. Therefore its not overly sweet, though can be sweetened up with your choice of frosting.

Fluffy Vanilla Frosting Recipe

1/2 cup butter or shortening5 cups confectioners sugar1/8 teaspoon salt4 to 5 tablespoons milk

Cream butter, 1 cup confectioners* sugar, vanilla and salt in large mixer bowl. Add remaining confectioners sugar alternately with milk, beating to spreading consistency. Makes 3 cups frosting.

2-1/4 cups unsifted all-purpose flour1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda1-1/3 cups buttermilk or sour milk*Burnt sugar frosting

Stir together cocoa and boiling water in small bowl until smooth set aside. Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla in large mixer bowl blend in eggs.

Combine flour, baking soda and salt add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture. Blend in reserved cocoa mixture.

Pour batter into two greased and floured 9-inch or three 8-inch layer pans. Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes for 9-inch layers, 25 to 30 minutes for 8-inch layers or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.

Cool 10 minutes remove from pans. Cool completely. Fill and frost with Burnt Sugar Frosting.

* To sour milk: Use 1 tablespoon vinegar plus milk to equal 1 cup. Have milk at room temperature before combining with the amount of vinegar indicated in the recipe. Let mixture stand several minutes before using.

The chocolate cookie crust on this pie is the perfect crunch to balance out the creamy layers and toppings. You can also substitute this Oreo crust on some other of your favorite pies

If you are using a food processor, add your Oreo cookies and pulse until fine texture. Alternatively you can also add the cookies to a plastic zip top bag and crush them with a rolling pin.

Next add the crushed cookies to a medium sized bowl and combine with melted butter. Pour the mixture into a 9 inch deep dish pie pan pie pan and using your fingers or the back of a measuring cup to firmly press the mixture evenly throughout the pan.

Set the pie crust aside in the refrigerator while you work on the pie layers.

Chocolate Glaze Recipe Variations

You can adapt this chocolate glaze recipe to suit your own taste. For the pics and video you see here, I used a semi-sweet chocolate that has a rich, full flavor.

But you could easily replace that with milk chocolate or white chocolate. Or with a deep, dark, bitter chocolate like a 70% cacao. I think that would be fantastic drizzled on cookies, with a sprinkling of sea salt!

  • add 1 ½ teaspoons espresso powder OR instant coffee crystals
  • replace the 1 cup boiling water with 1 cup boiling coffee

Whats espresso powder and where can I find it?

Espresso powder is made from espresso grounds that have been roasted, ground, and brewed. The water is then removed from the espresso either by flash-heat drying or freeze-drying, leaving behind dehydrated crystals.

Historically, espresso powder was primarily used in baking as an ingredient. As a result, it was only available for purchase or in specialty stores like King Arthur Baking Company. However, these days, folks use espresso powder to make drinks! You can now buy espresso powder in most major grocery stores and Target. In the US, the most readily available instant espresso brand is Medaglia DOro.

Whats instant coffee? Is it different from ground coffee? And if so, can I use ground coffee instead?

Instant coffee is different from ground coffee. Ground coffee is made by grinding coffee beans into a coarse or fine powder. You can easily make ground coffee at home with a coffee grinder.

In a pinch, you can use ground coffee instead of instant coffee in this recipe. However, ground coffee doesnt dissolve as well as instant coffee during the baking process. You may end up with small flecks of ground coffee in your chocolate cake!

How To Make Chocolate Glaze

STEP 1: CUT THE CHOCOLATE INTO UNIFORM PIECES

You can start with chocolate chips or chop the chocolate into uniform pieces so that they melt evenly. Put the chocolate in a heatproof bowl.

STEP 2: HEAT THE CHOCOLATE IN THE MICROWAVE

Heat the chocolate in short bursts in the microwave, stopping and stirring about every 15-20 seconds. Stop heating the chocolate when it is almost completely melted but there are still a few solid pieces.

STEP 3: STIR IN THE BUTTER

Remove the melted chocoalte from the microwave and add the butter pieces. Stir until the mixture becomes a smooth glaze. Use immediately.

One of my favorite ways to decorate a cake made in a bundt of tube pan is with pieces of candy bar. I put a glaze, icing or ganache on the cake and then place pieces of cut up candy on top around the center whole.

    I get it. You read everything above but thought that overnight seems like a long time to wait for a chocolate cake. What if you want the Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cake RIGHT NOW? Good news! You dont have to assemble the cake over two days.You can make the both the cake and frosting in one day, and assemble it in the same day, too.

    To do so, follow the recipe instructions to make the chocolate cake. Cool completely in the pans on a wire rack before frosting. Once cool, tightly wrap each cake layer in its own sheet of plastic wrap. Freeze for 5 to 10 minutes while you make prep the ingredients for and make the chocolate frosting. Then, follow the recipe instructions to assemble, crumb coat, and frost the cake.

    Freezing the cakes for 5 to 10 minutes will stiffen the cake and make it easier to frost. Note that youll likely need to set the crumb coat for longer than whats listed in the recipe below.     Make The Chocolate Cheesecake

  • Prepare for Baking: Preheat the oven to 300°F. Line the entire inside of a 9-inch cake pan with aluminum foil. Press it into the pan to get it as flat as you can. Youll use the aluminum foil to lift the cheesecake out of the pan when its baked and cooled.
  • Combine Cream Cheese, Sugar & Cocoa: In a large mixer bowl, mix the cream cheese, sugar and cocoa powder until well combined . Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  • Add Vanilla & Sour Cream: Add the sour cream and vanilla extract, mixing on low speed until well combined.
  • Add Chocolate: Slowly add the melted and cooled chocolate and mix until well combined.
  • Slowly Add Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, beating slowly and scraping the sides of the bowl after each addition.
  • Make Water Bath & Bake: Place the cake pan inside another larger pan. Fill the outside pan with enough warm water to go about halfway up the sides of the smaller pan. Bake the cheesecake for about 50 minutes. The center should be set, but still jiggly.
  • Let Cool in Oven: Turn off the oven and leave the door closed for 30 minutes. The cheesecake will continue to cook, but slowly begin to cool as well.
  • Crack Oven Door Until Cooled: Crack the door of the oven for 30 minutes to allow the cheesecake to continue to cool slowly. This process helps prevent cracking.
  • Chill: Remove the cheesecake from the oven and water bath wrapping and refrigerate until firm, 5-6 hours or overnight.

    HERSHEY BAR CAKE. 1 box Swiss chocolate cake mix. 1 sm. box instant vanilla pudding. 3 eggs. 1 1/2 c. milk. 1 c. oil. Mix well and put in 3 pans, bake at 325 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. ICING: 1 cream cheese.

    Instructions: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a tube pan. Melt the chopped chocolate bars in the top of a double boiler . In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine the butter and sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

    Step 3 Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and granulated sugar at medium speed with an electric mixer until mixture is creamy. Step 4 Chop 8 of the candy bars finely. Fold cream cheese mixture and chopped candy into whipped topping. Step 5 Spread icing between layers and on top and sides of cake. Chop remaining 2 candy bars.

    Mix first 5 ingredients and bake at 350 in 4 round cake pans. Bake according to cake mix directions. Mix frosting ingredients together and add 4 grated Hershey bars with almonds and ½ cup pecans. Ice between layers, top and sides.
