Peanut Butter And Honey Dog Biscuits

Westie Dog Cake Tutorial West Highland Terrier, great birthday cake idea

Honey is a great natural way to sweeten your homemade dog treats. It also has many benefits for dogs, including helping with environmental allergies. This recipe also uses whole wheat flour, but you can substitute a different type of flour if your dog has food sensitivities.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon. baking soda

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat your oven to 350°.

Grease an 8 x 8 square cake pan. You can also use a small silicone baking pan like the ones I use in my video tutorial above.

Whisk together the egg, peanut butter, oil, honey, and vanilla. Stir in the carrots and mix until well combined. Fold in the baking soda and flour. Bake the cake in your 350° oven for about 40 minutes.

While the cake is baking, you can make a dog-safe icing if you like. Microwave 4 ounces of cream cheese for about 30 seconds to soften it. Add 3 tablespoons of canned pumpkin and mix everything together.

When the cake comes out of the oven, let it cool completely. Now you can freeze it. Serve your dog a small piece every day. Keep in mind that this homemade healthy dog birthday cake recipe will add extra calories to your pups diet, so dont feed him too much at once. You can reduce the portion size of his meals or increase his daily exercise to burn off the extra calories.

    Why This Recipe Works

Hudson, believe it or not, has a sensitive tummy. Ever since he was a puppy, I have included pumpkin in my recipes for him. Pumpkin provides dogs with fiber and aids in digestive health. Its easy for dogs to digest and the flavor isnt overwhelming!

For this recipe, I also included applesauce. It has the same benefits as pumpkin, but adds a little natural sweetness. Applesauce is also a substitute for oil, which I wanted to avoid using in this recipe.

How To Make Pumpkin Dog Treats

Lets walk through what youll need and what youll do. Reminder, the full printable recipe, with exact measurements and instructions, is found at the bottom of the page. This portion of the post is for discussion, helpful tips and answering common questions about the recipe.

    Ingredients

These treats use ingredients you probably have in your pantry already! All you need for the pumpkin dog treats recipe are as follows:

    • Flour: For this recipe I used whole wheat flour. Check with your vet to see which flour they would recommend for your dog.
    • Eggs: Make sure to grab large size eggs.
    • Natural Peanut Butter: Natural peanut butter is the only way to go. Most importantly avoid any peanut butter that contains the sweetener Xylitol, which can be poisonous to dogs.
    • Pumpkin Puree: Double check that you are using pure canned pumpkin puree. Often cans of pumpkin pie mix sit right next to pumpkin puree in the store, and you dont want all those extra ingredients in your pumpkin dog treats.
    • Water
    • Ground Cinnamon

    Steps To Take

Mix together all ingredients to combine everything to form a dough. This may be easier with an electric or stand mixer.

This will be a very thick and crumbly dough. Add a little bit of water to help moisten the ingredients, then you will be able to work and knead the dough. Only add a tablespoon or so as you go. You want the dough to end up being a dry and thick consistency.

This Easy Dog Cake Makes A 6

Abby has turned into a rambunctious 2-year-old. Shes still her same old anxious self shes never far from me but she loves her ball and swimming. Shes become almost manic about swimming: the second she sees Jordan or Mel in their swimsuits shes following them around like theyre coated in whipped cream. If they happen to forget to bring her outside with them she throws herself against the door until I let her out. Its part hilarious and part annoying, ha!

Since shes so small I let her have all the treats she wants. She doesnt eat much so birthday cake isnt something she needs to worry about consuming.

Caring for a dog like Abby might be hard but I wouldnt trade it for the world. Whenever someone talks about getting a dog I always tell them its a lot of work but if you love them enough itll be worth it!

If there is one thing Abby loves more than me, its her B-A-L-L. We usually only play ball outside because my aim is horrible Im good at knocking photos off the walls so we spend a lot of time outside whenever the weather is nice.

Since we spend so much time outside I always treat Abby for fleas and ticks. PetArmor Plus just launched at PetSmart and is NOW available at PetSmart stores and on PetSmart.com, which makes it so easy to purchase. I love taking Abby to PetSmart to see the other dogs and pick out new toys so I can grab my flea and tick protection while Im there.

Honey is known to have antimicrobial and antifungal properties according to the American Kennel Club. It also reduces inflammation and cure allergies. Do not give raw honey to puppies or dogs with compomised immune systems. It is only okay in recipes. Hudson has been very itchy since moving from Connecticut to Colorado so Im hoping honey helps his allergies!

  • 1Preheat the oven to 350ºF/180ºC.
  • 2Grease a small cake pan or muffin tin. This recipe makes a small cake in a serving size suitable for your dog and a friend. If you have more canine guests, you’ll want to double the recipe.XResearch sourceAdvertisement
  • 3Mix the ingredients together in a medium bowl. Use an electric mixer or your own elbow grease to mix up the peanut butter, egg, banana, baking powder and cottage cheese until the batter is smooth and creamy.
  • If you want the cake to have a firmer structure, add 1/2 cup of wheat flour. Many dogs are sensitive to wheat, so you should only do this if you know your dog can safely eat wheat products.
  • If your dog like sweeter treats, you can also add 2 teaspoons apple juice.
  • Don’t add extra sugar or salt, since it’s not good for your dog.
  • 4Spoon the batter into the prepared pan. Use the back of your spoon to smooth over the top, so it will bake evenly.
  • 5Bake the cake for 15 to 20 minutes. Test the cake to see if it’s done by sticking a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean, it’s done.
  • 6Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before removing it from the pan. Don’t dish it up right away, since it’s too hot for your dog’s mouth.
  • 7Ice the cake with extra peanut butter. If you want it to have the lighter texture of regular cake icing, beat equal parts peanut butter and cream cheese, then spread it on the cake. Advertisement
