Dennis and Janette Looney are opening a Nothing Bundt Cakes store Sept. 19 at Cedar Center North in South Euclid. The Looneys also own a Nothing Bundt Cakes store in Avon.
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — One day in 2005, while living in Las Vegas, Janette Looney had a life-changing experience by merely biting into a piece of cake.
Looney, who wasnt particularly a cake fan, tasted that sample at a Nothing Bundt Cakes shop. It stuck in her mind to the point where she now says, It was my dream to open a Nothing Bundt Cakes of my own.
Looney and her husband, Dennis, fulfilled that dream by opening their Nothing Bundt Cakes franchise in Avon in December 2017. They are about to open their second such shop, on Sept. 19, at Cedar Center North, next door to Piadas Italian Street Food in South Euclid.
A former teacher and Realtor, Janette Looney said she began to buy all her cakes at the Las Vegas Nothing Bundt Cakes — the city where the franchise was founded in 1997 — when her fellow teachers celebrated their birthdays at school. She was dating Dennis, also not a huge cake fan at the time, and quickly made him a convert.
My introduction came when I was with a friend watching a boxing match, just two guys, Dennis Looney recalled of his magical moment. When Janette got Dennis and his friend a Nothing Bundt Cakes cake to enjoy while watching the fight, the two gave it a try.

Yummy in my tummy! Nothing Bundt Cakes are definitely delicious!! I got the regular cake, marble and red velvet. I highly recommend the red velvet if you enjoy the richness of sweet. I dropped off one star because I wanted to see the ingredients of the cakes in some kind of packaged with a smart label or so because the person I purchased the cake for couldn’t eat it and when called the location, there was no answer. Hope that improves!

Nothing Bundt Faith: Texas Couple Follows Dream Of Opening Bakery
BOARDMAN, Ohio A new, sweet spot was celebrated yesterday, bringing out neighbors and members of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber.
A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday morning for Nothing Bundt Cakes, 813 Boardman-Poland Road. Those gathered welcomed owners Cecilia and Ron Bolar, formerly of Texas, to the Mahoning Valley. Ron was unable to attend the event, but stepping in was daughter Nicole, who flew in from Austin to help with the ceremony.
Originally from Dallas, the Bolars fell in love with Nothing Bundt cakes as they researched the company. They determined that Ron could interact with customers and handle the customer service aspect, while Cecilia would bake and decorate.
The only issue was no availability to open a franchise in Texas.
When we decided to open a Nothing Bundt Cake, there were no open territories in Dallas, Cecilia Bolar said.
They were told if they wanted to open a store, theyd have to move. The Bolars reached out to the corporate office to see if they could open a store in the Youngstown area after discussing coming to the Mahoning Valley to visit friends, Bolar said.
While their hard work and leap of faith are each paying off, it isnt lost on the Bolars that moving across the country to follow a dream isnt easy.
To pick up and move Most people cant do what we did, Cecilia Bolar said.
They were asked by friends, family and clients where they would stay once they got to Ohio.

“When we decided to open on Cleveland’s East Side, we looked at a number of sites,” recalled Dennis Looney, local bakery owner with wife, Janette. “But, now that we are opening in South Euclid, we couldn’t be happier.”
Through the hiring process, the Looneys have come to understand that their business is about much more than cake.

The bakery will host grand opening festivities for the community in late-October .
