You will need:

  • 1 Gluten Free Betty Crocker Devils Food Cake Mix
  • ½ – 1 gallon Gluten Free Vanilla Ice Cream, or Favorite gluten-free Ice Cream Flavor
  • 1- 2 Containers Duncan Hines or other Gluten Free Fudge Frosting
  • Cake Decorating Frosting, optional to write happy birthday message
  • Candles, optional for birthday party.

  • Bake the Gluten free Devils Food Cake as per box instructions, in two 8 cake pans. Remove from oven and cool.
  • When the cake is completely cool, take the ice cream out of freezer to soften.
  • Place one Gluten Free Cake Layer on a cake platter. Put an even layer of softened ice cream on top. Next, place the other Gluten Free Cake Layer on top of the softened ice cream. If the ice cream is getting to soft place the cake in the freezer for 10 minutes before frosting.

    One Dairy Queen manager received backlash when they refused a decoration request. Summer Gibbon and her sister Gracie had requested Happy Birthday, Lesbian to be written on a DQ cake. At first, the employee at the front counter said it was fine at least, until her supervisor hit the brakes. They told her that the location was a family establishment, and the word was apparently inappropriate for young eyes, per Global News. When Gibbons family followed up with the said supervisor, they were told that it was sexual in nature to put the word on the cake.

    Obviously, it was a letdown for Summer in particular, though her family came to her support. It was upsetting watching her feel that especially on her birthday and I was worried about her, Gracie said of the incident. She felt embarrassed and ashamed and she should never have to feel that for who she is.

    The franchise owner, Tim Morrison, released an apology, stating theres no place for discrimination in his restaurant.     If you’re going to make a Carvel- or Baskin Robbins-style ice cream cake, you’re going to need a chocolate cookie crunch layer. Some homemade ice cream cake recipes use crushed gluten free Oreos, gluten free Joe Joes or maybe our homemade gluten free Oreos, if you don’t mind the extra work.

    I prefer to make the chocolate crunchy layer with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies , that aren’t crushed into sandy crumbs. Crush them by hand just until they’re small chunks, and then add a mixture of melted chocolate and coconut oil.

    The mixture of melted chocolate and coconut oil is a homemade version of Magic Shell, the chocolate ice cream topping that hardens when it’s poured on cold ice cream. The melted chocolate mixture helps the cookie crumbles turn into perfect clusters.

    Can I Use Something Instead Of Gelatin To Make No Churn Vegan Ice Cream

    Every ingredient in this recipe no churn ice cream recipe is vegan, except for the gelatin.

    There is a vegan gelatin alternative my friend The Baking Fairy told me about, Bakol Unflavored Jel. She used it to make coconut white chocolate panna cotta. I havent tried it myself, so Id recommend using the directions on the back of the box to add it to the canned coconut cream. One package sets about 2 cups of liquid, which is equal to about 1 envelope or 1 tablespoon of unflavored gelatin. If you use Bakol Jel, youll need about of the package.

    You may also use ½ teaspoon of xanthan gum instead of gelatin. This wont thicken your mixture the same way as gelatin, but will help to emulsify it so that the coconut cream doesnt separate out while chilling. The gelatin helps it to be more scoop able, in addition to emulsifying the mixture so you dont have clumps of coconut cream in your chilled mixture. If you use xanthan gum, add it very slowly, just a pinch at a time, while whisking.

    If you dont use gelatin, you can add 1 tablespoon of vodka to your ice cream to help prevent it from being too icy.

    Does Ice Cream Have Gluten

    Ice cream, if made from basic, natural ingredients, is naturally gluten free. Issues come in when ice cream has things added to it that include gluten, or if there is cross-contamination during production. I feel much safer making my own gluten free ice cream from scratch so that I can control all of those variables.

    How To Assemble The Ice Cream Cake

    • Crush the gluten-free cookies in a food processor or place them in a plastic storage bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
    • Make the whipped cream frosting .
    • Place the first cake layer on top of the cake platter.
    • Add a thin layer of whipped cream to the top of your cake layer and sprinkle the top with the crushed gluten-free cookies.
    • Remove the frozen ice cream layer from the foil and place it on top of the first cake layer.
    • Sprinkle the top of the ice cream layer with the crushed gluten-free cookies.
    • Place the second cake layer on top of the ice cream layer.
    • Cover the entire cake with the whipped cream frosting.
    • Using a star tip , add some dollops of whipped cream on top of the cake. Finish decorating with additional whole gluten-free cookies and crushed gluten-free cookies.
    • Serve immediately or place the cake back into the freezer until ready to serve.
    • Just before serving, take the cake out of the freezer and move it to the refrigerator for 30 minutes or let sit at room temperature for 15 minutes for easy slicing.
    • Store leftovers in a freezer-safe container and place the cake back in the freezer.

    Remove the ice cream cake from the freezer and use a clean dishcloth soaked in hot water to defrost and loosen the ice cream from the sides of the springform pan. As you swipe the hot, damp rag over the outside of the springform pan, you should see the ice cream start to pull away from the sides of the pan.

    Carefully remove the outside ring of the pan. If the outer ring doesnt remove easily, continue to warm the pan with the cloth until it lifts easily and cleanly off the cake.
