The lack of a Red King Crab season in 2019 was largely due to an overall decline in the crab population over recent years. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game found that red king crab had experienced significant declines from their historically high levels observed in the 1980s, with an average of less than half the population compared to that time period.
As a result, the crab abundance-per-unit-effort for the species has continuously declined since it was first monitored in the early 1980s. The service was very good, but some of the food has gone downhill. We were seated right away, the manager was very nice and let us switch from a booth to a table since it was easier with the kiddos. The waitress was fabulous. The calamari was good. My mother had a lobsterfest item and my toddler had an item off the kid’s menu they both enjoyed their meals. I had the admiral’s feast and it was not up to par. The fish was burnt, the scallops were watery, and the shrimp cocktail had a lot of horseradish in it. This isn’t the first time we’ve had hit-or-miss food from here, but usually the waitstaff makes up for it.
Get to Red Lobster about once a year as none around us so a treat. Very dissapointed in the service. No plates with our appetizer. Ordered crab, got no crab cracker. By the time I got it, crab was cold. Servicer kept blaming kitchen and others for issues. She was friendly and nice but did not provide good service. I didn’t leave a 20% tip and typically always do so.Seated next to a window and was cold. 6 year old wanted to wear her coat and I couldn’t blame her. Too busy to ask for a different table.
