If youve missed seeing The Pound Cake Mans orange and purple truck at festivals and farmers markets this spring, you can find him Tuesday through Saturday at his new bakery on Old Greenville Highway in Clemson.

Its one of those deals that you realized early on with the food truck that it was going pretty well, says Jeff Bennett aka The Pound Cake Man. I was making cakes out of my house and out of the truck and I just didnt have anywhere to store them. During a football game last year, I had to do 165 cakes. I can make that number, but they were literally all over my house. I had to have a brick and mortar spot.

So, on May 18, in the middle of a pandemic, Bennett opened The Pound Cake Man Bakery at 530 Old Greenville Highway in Clemson.

I found this place and signed a lease back in November and thought it was going to be relatively easy, Bennett says with a smile. Opening a business in the middle of pandemic wasnt really the plan, but because were a restaurant, a bakery, were technically an essential business so there arent any restrictions on what we can do.

The Pound Cake Man Bakery offers whole pound cakes in more than 40 flavors and will even customize with a little Baileys Irish Cream, rum or a specialty brew, upon request. There are even gluten-free varieties.

Pound Cake Man Food Truck Brings Joy

Jeff Bennett is known as The Pound Cake Man throughout Clemson for his variety of scrumptious cakes, and now his notoriety will be growing with his new food truck.

Given the same name The Pound Cake Man Bennett plans to offer whole cakes and cake by the slice with his new food truck that made its debut at Clemsons First Friday Parade.

I plan to be all over the upstate. In Clemson for game days and special events, Greenville in the areas they allow food trucks, and other cities and festivals as I find them, Bennett said of his plans.

The love of baking developed early for Bennett, who got his pound cake recipe from his paternal grandmother. While working in an office several years ago, he volunteered to make birthday cakes for coworkers and pulled out his grandmothers recipe. From there, he developed more than 40 flavors of pound cake, all with a complimentary cream cheese icing.

The thoughts of a bakery entered Bennetts mind often over the years, but he said trying to find a good location and the capital to open a storefront was daunting. But with food trucks becoming increasingly popular, it seemed like a natural progression for Bennett.

When not baking, Bennett is a jack of many trades working as a realtor in Clemson, as well as running a video production company. He also runs the Clemson Area Protocol School, an etiquette program for teens.

But right now the focus is on the cakes and selling them across the upstate.
