Grandmas Cinnamon Coffee Cake
Ive tried bad coffee cake recipes and this isnt one of them. One time, I made a coffee cake from a cookbook and it was beyond dry and had a weird aftertaste. Needless to say, it didnt even compare to grandmas recipe and I never made it again. I promise you, this cinnamon coffee cake is not like that. Its sweet, moist and melt-in-your-mouth good. Making this recipe reminds me of my grandma who I miss beyond words.
Grandma’s Buttermilk Coffee Cake
This is the best coffeecake I’ve ever had! So easy to make and always a hit. Not sure if it is really grandma’s recipe or if she got it somewhere.

2 1/4 cups flour |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1 cup buttermilk |
1 egg, slightly beatten |
Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix flour, salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon into a large mixing bowl. Add sugar and oil and mix on medium speed until well blended and feathery.
- Remove 3/4 cup of this mixture and put in a smaller mixing bowl for the topping. Add walnuts and remainder of cinnamon to the contents of the smaller bowl for the topping, mix well and set aside for later.
- To remaining mixture add baking soda, baking powder, egg and buttermilk. Mix until smooth, this is the coffeecake batter.
- Spoon the cake batter into a buttered 9 x 13 baking dish. Sprinkle the topping over the cake batter and press lightly with fingers. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 – 30 minutes.

This is my grandmas receipe, made totally from scratch. Best right out of the oven but still great warmed up in the microwave. Its very quick and easy to make and it makes your house smell amazing!

1 c milk |

Steps:
- 1. Mix together milk, sugar, flour and butter to make cake like batter. Add more flour if needed.
- 2. Pour mixture into greased 13 x 9 pan.
- 3. Sprinkle with dark brown sugar and cinnamon to taste.
- 4. Bake in 375 degree oven 15-20 min.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Liberally grease a 9×13″ rectangular baking dish with cooking spray set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugars, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt and whisk together until incorporated. Pour in the oil and stir to combine until moist crumbs come together. Reserve 2 cups of the crumbs.
- Add in the beaten egg, buttermilk, and vanilla to the original bowl and stir until a thin batter comes together. Do NOT overmix the batter some lumps are okay. Pour the batter into the prepared pan in an even layer. Sprinkle the top of the batter evenly with the crumbs.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean or with moist crumbs. Cool about 15-20 minutes before cutting into squares to serve, or cool longer if you want prettier squares as this is a very tender cake!

Grandma’s Sour Cream Coffee Cake Recipe
INSTRUCTIONS. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour three 9-in. round cake pans. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda and cinnamon. Add the eggs, bananas, oil, pineapple and vanilla. Beat until well combined. Stir in the nuts. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. 3. Add eggs. Mix until well combined. 4. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, allspice, clove, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and brown sugar. 5. Add flour mixture to butter mixture, alternately with applesauce and 1/2 cup water.
To make the frosting, put the butter, peanut butter, and buttermilk in a saucepan and bring to a full boil. Take off the heat and beat in the vanilla and powdered sugar, adding a cup at a time, until the frosting is smooth.
Step 2. Sift together next 4 ingredients and mix thoroughly with butter and egg mixture. Work the fruit and nuts into batter with hands. Grease and flour a 19″ tube pan. Step 3. Fill pan 2/3 full with batter. Bake at 275° for 3 hours. One-half hour before cake is done, brush top with corn syrup.
Add in the eggs and vanilla and continue mixing. Add in the soaked rolled oats and continue mixing. In another bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add flour mixture into oats mixture and stir until all ingredients are combined. Spray an 8×8 baking pan with nonstick spray and then lightly flour.

Cranberry coffee cake with orange and cardamom will fill your home with scents of the holidays. Its perfect for any day but I picture this making a Christmas brunch appearance.
Can you imagine anything much better than the scents of cranberries, orange and cardamom wafting through your house around the holidays?
I grew up eating a blueberry coffee cake similar to this cake. Both my mom and my grandma liked to make it . I love this recipe base because its perfectly sweet, perfectly moist and so simple to make. And of course, because it brings me back to Sunday afternoons at my grandmas house. So it makes sense that I love to create new takes on it the peach spice coffee cake is still one of my faves.
In an effort to not eat all this cranberry coffee cake myself, and to get to know our new neighbors, I sent out a group text after I baked this cake inviting our neighbors to swing by for a piece of coffee cake. An impromptu hour getting to know new friends on a sunny Sunday afternoon transpired quickly after sending out the text.
Cake brings people together.
Although cranberries are plentiful and easy to find in stores around Thanksgiving and Christmas, you may not be able to find them other times of the year. If you love cranberries as much as I do, buying frozen cranberries is a great way to enjoy them all year round. I almost always have a bag in my freezer.
