This Kodiak Cakes waffle recipe does not follow the recipe on the box. Why? Because it is too basic to be truly delicious.

Kodiak Cakes is a rare pancake mix that is 100% whole grain and only has 3 grams of sugar for three waffles.

I like whole grain pancake mix because it makes my life easier. Also, they sell this in big boxes at Costco so I have a ton of this stuff.

I made a Kodiak Cakes muffin recipe and Kodiak pancakes recipe that my family enjoyed and was super easy.

Time to upgrade the waffles! I went for the obvious by adding frozen blueberries because everyone loves blueberries in their waffles. You can add any fruit that you like – frozen strawberries, mango, raspberries, banana….

I added an egg, yogurt and vanilla. I love yogurt in my waffles because it gives them a sour flavor .

The original Kodiak Cakes waffle recipe calls only for water and a tablespoon of oil. I updated the box recipes quite a bit and I must say mine is much better .

You can go without the oil because you add the yogurt to give it flavor.

I did spray the waffle maker with non-stick spray to ensure that the waffles could be removed when done cooking.

How did they turn out? They didnt taste like cardboard! Kodiak cake mix is the perfect 100% whole grain mix to upgrade. When you add yogurt and blueberries they become fluffier and less like cardboard.

The yogurt and blueberry ensures these are sweet enough to not need syrup but you can add it if you want it.

Kodiak Cakes Power Cakes Review

This is going to be a fairly short review and I’m sure it will be unpopular, but I felt compelled to write this up as a warning to our Costco community. Here goes nothing!

Background: I used to exclusively buy Bisquick, but after continually finding bugs in it I switched to Krusteaz. While I’ve been content with Krusteaz for the past few years, my wife kept asking if we can try Kodiak Cakes due to positive reviews from her friend group. I obliged and once our supply of Krusteaz was no more, we tried Kodiak Cakes on Sunday for the first time ever and made some waffles.

Review: I imagine the people who decided to make a healthy, protein-packed waffle had good intentions, I truly do. However, this was by far the worst waffle I have ever ate in my life. If you take everything that makes a waffle taste good, then remove that, you get a Kodiak Cake waffle. It tasted like sadness. Dry, dense, without flavor. All of the healthiness was removed by the amount of butter and syrup I used to make it palatable.

If you want a healthy breakfast, eat some fruit or yogurt. Don’t ruin breakfast with Kodiak Cakes. The end.
