In addition to packing materials inside, a bigger box can hold the first box and more packing peanuts. If possible, you may avoid shipping perishables during the hot weather months of June, July, August, and September.

    Step 1

Place the cheesecake inside the freezer overnight or until frozen solid. With that, avoid shipping the cheesecake unless frozen. Remember, the cheesecake can last 3 to 6 months when stored in a freezer.

    Step 2

Then, wrap the cheesecake with five layers of plastic wrap. Ensure to pull the wrapping tightly over the cake. With that, do it as you loop the plastic around it for each layer. After that, ensure to tuck the loose ends firmly around the pan. Likewise, under the bottom when you finish.

Sending A Cake Through The Post Am I Mad

    Updated 19 Mar 2013 , 8:06pmby Chippi

I live in the UK and I wanted to make a cake for my friends baby shower, she lives around a 4 hour drive away . If I make the cake Im going to have to send it through the post, does anyone else have experience of this or am I just plain crazy to pack my cake into a box and hand over to the royal mail?

I dont see how it could work. People dont understand the fragil nature of cakes, how to handle them, transport themI highly doubt the cake would make it to the shower in the same condition you sent it.Any reason you cant drive it there? I know you said it is 4 hours away, that isnt too bad if you could make a weekend out of it. Spend sometime with your friend.

I mailed a cake to a friend through US Postal. Here is the thread that shows how I did it.

I wouldnt send it with RM. Why not try a courier company? We use www.interparcel.com a lot it is like a bidding service where you can get quotes from loads of courier companies at once. Write/sticker all over the box that it is fragile cake and must stay right-side-up . Pack around the outside with bubblewrap , but never a decorated cake which I have spent hours working on.

Here is my one attempt/success at shipping a cake using the US Postal Service for a small-fondant-covered cake:

What Type Of Baked Goods Can You Ship

Figuring out how to ship baked goods sounds exciting, but its a tricky thing to do properly. Like any food, it can be a challenging to mail. Its best to choose those that can hold their shape and maintain their freshness for a few days so, you should probably avoid sending items that should be served within a few hours.

The ingredients in your treats and the weather youre shipping in have important roles to play, too. If the ingredients are perishable or need temperature control, then shipping can be challenging. Sending items like ice cream or fresh cream is not advisable. Items like cookies, pies, candies, and cakes are much easier to ship and can be sent all year round. Pies and cookies should not lose their freshness when delivered.

If you are determining on how to ship baked goods then pick ones that wont crumble during shipping. Biscotti and oat or butter cookies are good choices as they hold better in packaging and shipping. Try avoiding flimsy items like lace cookies, tuiles, and brandy snaps. Shipping cookies with nuts or chocolate chips are also not a good choice as they might release oils and compromise the freshness.

Bread and unfrosted loaf cakes are relatively simple to ship as well. All you need to do is pack them properly and send them off. Fresh cream cakes should be avoided at all costs. On the other hand, cakes with fondant or buttercream icing can be mailed as long as you pack them with cooling bags to maintain their freshness.

Think Strategically About How And To When Ship

If you are doing weekend baking, the best time to ship is Monday or earlier in the week. Dont want to wait until late Friday night to drop off your package because there is a chance it will sit in the sorting facility over the weekend. Shipping can be costly, especially when it is expedited, but the best shipping option for perishable goods is overnight-air, next-day-air, or two-day-air. Its recommended that you pack all your goodies in a brand new box thats sealed with packing tape instead of duct tape or masking tape. Even though surprises are always great, its not the worst idea to alert the people you are shipping the baked goodies to, so they can look out for the package.
