The gelatin or jello in our fourth of July cake will add a pop of color and the necessary patriotic feel. It will also keep the final cake very moist! If youre not a fan of jello, separate two small portions of the cake batter into bowls and add red food coloring to one, and blue food coloring to the other. Pour the colored batter over top of the white vanilla batter in the cake pan and run a toothpick through the mixture to make a fun swirl pattern!

I bought a dozen of cupcakes that had blue and white icing.

Here is what youll need to make these adorable and festive cupcakes the super easy way!

Supplies youll need:

Directions:

Frost the Cupcake

Once you have your cupcakes youll want to frost the top if they arent already. So, take your store-bought two white frosting containers and separate them equally into three bowls.

With one bowl mix a blue food coloring into the frosting, and in the other make a red frosting. The third bowl youll leave white.

Place tips on pastry bags and fill with frosting. Youll have three different cake decorating bags.

To decorate the cake with a swirl frosting design, use a Wilton 2D tip. Starting in the middle of the cupcake, filling in a circle moving towards the outside. There is a great video from Wilton on how to frost a cupcake like a bakery.

Once you have your cupcakes frosted create a border at the base of your cupcakes. I used a Wilton tip 32 to create the border.

Next, I sprinkled the cupcakes with blue, white and red candy stars. Yes, I picked out those colors out of my sprinkles.

Place Cupcakes in Cute Paper Liners

Finally, you can place the cupcakes in the cute patriotic cupcake liners if you want. I had some kicking around from Christmas, and the red and white stripes looked festive for the 4th of July. So I used them!

Happy 4th of July

Have a safe and blessed weekend!

Please use any chocolate that is designed for coating . Ive used these below with success. I am not a fan of the candy melts because they are too sweet for me, so I use typical coating chocolate wafters. A lot of people use candy melts because they come in predesigned colors, and it is easier. You definitely can color your chocolate with oil-based coloring or powdered coloring designed for chocolate. It just takes an extra step to do the colors.

I then printed out the flags to make a pattern and I used a star fondant cutter to make the stars. I placed them in a random pattern. I used tips 13 and 16 to fill in and tip 18 for the border.

I used the checkered board cake set. I tinted 1/3 of the cake mix blue 1/3 red and left the remaining 1/3 white. It takes two cake mixes for this cake. The best part of this cake was watching the reactions of people when they saw the inside!
