4th of July Ice Cream Cake | White Velvet Recipe!

    Completely homemade, very simple, and totally beautiful, this 4th of July Strawberry Ice Cream Cake is creamy, dreamy, and perfect!

    Yep, I know this is totally late. However, you can save this and plan on it for 4th of July next year, OR its a great red, white, and blue dessert, so it would work for Memorial Day.

    I ask my aunt and uncle what they wanted for dessert this year for 4th of July, and my aunt told me about a cake she saw on the front of a magazine. We pulled it up online, and I saw that it was an ice cream cake. I decided to do my own version, and using that strawberry ice cream that I shared the other day, and my cake recipe from the cake I made last 4th of July, Double Berry Very Vanilla Cake, it turned out perfect.

    I made a classic creamy vanilla buttercream, and then topped it with fresh blueberries and strawberries. I used a cookie cutter to form the star, but if youre totally artistic, you could just do it without.

    Ok, so this is way easier than you may think. the only part that was difficult was frosting. This is only because my cakes were frozen, and the frosting was freezing as quickly as I was spreading it on. Haha.

    How To Make It:

    1. Make the Ice Cream

    Split your ice cream base in half. Flavor half with fresh strawberry ice cream flavoring and add your red food coloring until it’s bright red. Flavor the other half with New York Cheesecake ice cream flavoring. Process each flavor separately in your ice cream machine.

    2. Swirl it

    Once your ice cream is ready, get your container ready. Alternate pouring in processed ice cream in white and red. Between those alternations, drizzle in some of your melted frosting. Use a rubber spatula to swirl your flavors and frosting. Do this until all your ice cream and frosting has been incorporated.

    3. Add the Decorations

    When serving your patriotic ice cream, add some bright sprinkles and serve!

    This icebox cake is cool and refreshing with its layers of softened graham crackers, luscious cream filling, and fresh berries. Its easy to make, there is no baking, and it can be made in advance. Its a perfect summer treat and a great way to celebrate the 4th of July!

    With the 4th of July coming up, I thought I would salute my American friends, family, and followers with a festive and patriotic dessert. So something red, white and blue to celebrate the nations independence. I also wanted to make something cold and summery to celebrate the season. A lovely icebox cake dressed with blueberries and strawberries seemed to fit all the criteria.

    Making The Red And Blue Cake Layers

  • Preheat your oven to 335ºF and prepare two 8×2 cake pans with cake goop or your preferred pan release.
  • Bring your buttermilk, egg whites, and butter to room temperature so that your ingredients mix together smoothly and your cake bakes up properly. If you dont have buttermilk, check out my buttermilk substitutes blog post for alternatives.
  • Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment. Mix 10 seconds to combine.
  • Divide your buttermilk in half. Combine 1/2 of the buttermilk with the oil and set aside.
  • Combine the other 1/2 of the buttermilk, egg whites, and vanilla together, whisk to break up the eggs and set aside.
  • Add your softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix on low until the mixture resembles coarse sand.
  • Add in your buttermilk/oil mixture and let it mix until the dry ingredients are moistened and then bump the speed up to medium and let it mix for 2 full minutes to develop the cakes structure. If you dont let your cake mix on this step your cake may not rise properly. The batter should look white and fluffy and not broken or curdled.
  • Scrape your bowl and then reduce speed to low. Add in your egg white mixture in three batches, letting the batter mix for 15 seconds between additions. Mix until everything is combined. The finished cake batter should look smooth and not curdled.
  • Divide your cake batter evenly into two bowls. I like to weigh my cake pans so that I know each layer is even.
  • How To Assemble The Red White And Blue Ice Cream Cake

    Easy July 4th Ice Cream Cake

    After your cake layers and the ice cream layer have been fully frozen, now its time to assemble the red, white, and blue ice cream cake! Believe it or not, this is the easy part! All we have to do is make the stabilized whipped cream, stack all the layers together, smooth it out and add some sprinkles!

  • Sprinkle the gelatin over the water and let it bloom for 5 minutes. If you dont want to use gelatin, check out my stabilized whipped cream blog post for 5 other substitutes.
  • Microwave the gelatin for 15 seconds and then stir. If the gelatin isnt fully melted continue melting in 5-second increments until the liquid is clear. Dont over-heat it.
  • Add 1 Tablespoon of cream to the gelatin and stir to combine. Set aside while you make the whipped cream.
  • Begin whipping your heavy whipping cream in the bowl of your stand mixer with the whisk attachment on medium speed.
  • Once the whipped cream is thick and foamy, add in the powdered sugar and the vanilla.
  • Continue whipping the cream until you see lines beginning to form in the surface of the cream .
  • Reduce the speed to low and then begin drizzling in the melted gelatin in a steady stream.
  • Continue mixing until firm peaks form but dont over-mix it or it will begin to curdle and turn to butter.
  • Place your frozen blue layer of cake onto your cake platter or cake board.
  • Apply a thin layer of whipped cream to the top of the cake. Then unwrap your ice cream layer from the foil and place the ice cream layer on top of the cake layer.

    Th Of July Recipe: Patriotic Make

    Whether youre spending your 4th of July at home or at the campground, this delicious patriotic make-ahead ice cream cake from Delicious Table is a great way to end the festivities! You have to start at least a day ahead to get this dessert ready, but its well worth it! Get the recipe below!

    Note: Start this cake 2-3 days before you want to serve it!

    • 1 package red velvet Oreos, crushed
    • 1 stick melted butter
    • 12 oz container real vanilla bean ice cream
    • 12 oz pound cake
    • 1 bottle of chocolate sauce
    • 1 bottle of caramel sauce
    • 2 12 oz Cool Whip containers
    • 1 jar Patriotic 4th sprinkles
  • Clear space in your freezer to allow a springform pan to sit flat.
  • Set the ice cream out to soften for two hours.
  • While you wait, make the Oreo cookie crust! Melt the butter by heating it in the microwave.
  • Thoroughly grind/crush the Oreos into a fine powder in a food processor.
  • Add the butter to the crushed Oreos and mix until combined.
  • Line the springform pan with the Oreo crust, pressing it into the edges until packed down with a measuring cup or spoon.
  • Set the crust in the freezer to chill for 30 minutes
  • Meanwhile, cut the brown off of the sides of the pound cake and cut into small chunks, approx. 1/2 1 pieces.
  • Add the cake pieces to the crust once it is thoroughly cooled and spread the cake chunks out evenly.
  • Pour half of the melted ice cream over the cake, spreading with a spatula.
  • Pour the rest of the melted ice cream over the top and smooth evenly.
  • Freeze overnight.

    I love the deep color of the raspberry sorbet, but any red ice cream would work. Even a pink strawberry would give you the stripe of the flag effect.

    How To Make 4th Of July Ice Cream

    This recipe requires anice cream machine but, I will also have instructions on how to make this as a no-churn recipe too! We received this Cuisinart ice cream machine as a gift and we have LOVED using it. You can get creative and make so many flavors! Plus, anything you make in the machine tastes way better than store-bought ice cream in my opinion.

    For the Patriotic Cupcakes

    For the cake part of this birthday cake ice cream, you will simply need a white cake mix and red and blue food coloring. Thats it! I like to use these gel food colorings because they are really vibrant and a little bit goes a long way. Plus, gel food coloring is great for baking because it wont mess up the liquid ratios in your batters. Liquid food colorings can throw things off a bit if you add too much.

    For the Vanilla Ice Cream

    This is such a simple vanilla ice cream recipe! All you will need is milk, heavy whipping cream, sugar and vanilla extract! Youll then mix everything together and chill for 2 hours or up to overnight before pouring into your ice cream maker and letting it work its magic!

    This fun red, white and blue Ice Cream Sandwiches Cake is super easy and really fun for your Memorial Day or 4th of July Celebrations! Just 5 simple ingredients and you have a show-stopping dessert!

    All you need to make this incredible Ice Cream Sandwiches Cake are 5 ingredients Klondike Ice Cream Sandwiches, whipped topping, marshmallow fluff, pudding, and coloring. Sprinkles are optional, but of course, highly recommended.

    I added a thin layer kind of like a crumb coat first, then went back over it again.

    Tips On Making This Homemade Ice Cream Cake:

  • To make this ice cream cake, I made two 8 inch vanilla cake layers, and wrapped them in plastic wrap once they were completely cool. I stored them in the fridge while I made the ice cream.
  • Once the ice cream was ready, I lined one of the 8 inch cake pans with plastic wrap, leaving enough overhang to cover the ice cream. I allowed the ice cream to freeze solid .
  • When I was ready to assemble, I unwrapped the ice cream, and placed a cake layer right on top, flipped it over, and that became my bottom cake layer. I placed the top layer on, and placed the cake back into the freezer while I prepared my frosting.
  • Once my frosting was ready, I removed the cake from the freezer and started frosting. I normally do a crumb coating, but like I said this frosting was freezing to the cake! I did the best smoothing that I could, and then placed it back in the freezer while I sliced my strawberries.
  • I placed the blueberries and strawberries on top, and then kept the cake in the freezer until ready to serve. The cake was a hit! The ice cream was creamy and delicious, and the cake and frosting was perfect.
  • You could do this with any cake, ice cream, or frosting. The possibilities are endless.
