How Many Diapers Do I Need To Make A Diaper Cake
The number of diapers you will need to make a diaper cake depends on how big youd like your finished cake to be and how many layers you plan to make. More diapers equals a bigger cake. However, heres a diaper cake sizing guide that will help you estimate how many diapers to buy.
The bottom tier of the diaper cakes I make are approximately 12-14 inches in diameter. Heres how many diapers I used:
The size of your finished diaper cake will also be slightly affected by the size of diapers you use. I used size 4 diapers for all of the diaper cakes shown in this post. If you use newborn or size 1 diapers, you may need to add one or two extra diapers to each round to make up the slight size difference.

Directions:
To begin, start fanning the Pampers along the perimeter of one of the cake pans as shown above. I spaced mine about 2″ apart to create a ruffled effect.
Continue until you’ve circled around the entire perimeter of the cake pan and then tuck the final diaper behind the first one.
Then, add another layer of diapers inside the first row in the same way. Continue adding layers inside the pan until you have nothing but a small circle of space left in the center.
Next, insert the recycled wrapping paper tube into the center of your layers and cut the top of it off so that it’s about 3 times as high as your first “cake” layer. Take an elastic band and carefully wrap it around this layer to hold everything together.
Remove it from the pan and set this first diaper cake layer aside, and then make two more layers for your diaper cake using this method with the remaining two sizes of cake pans.
Once you’ve made all three layers, set the largest layer down and place the wrapping paper roll in its center. Then, use the roll as an anchor and place your middle sized layer and then your smallest layer on top of the bottom diaper cake layer. Your diaper cake base is complete, and now comes the fun part – decorating!
First, wrap some wide ribbon around the center of each layer as shown above to add some interest and hide the elastic bands. Secure the ribbon at the back of the diaper cake with small safety pins.

How Many Diapers Do You Need For A Diaper Cake
This depends on the size and shape of the diaper cake you’re creating, but youll probably need anywhere from 38 to 64 diapers for a three-tier cake.
A good way to calculate your number: Decide how wide you want the bottom of the cake to be and estimate how many diapers it will take to build that base. From there, think about how many tiers you want.
For each tier, divide the number of diapers in the tier below it by two to determine about how many diapers you will need for the next layer. For example, for a three-tier cake with a bottom layer made of 32 diapers, you would want 16 in the middle layer and eight on top.

1. Start by rolling each diaper from the outside inward creating a small roll and securing each diaper roll using an elastic band
2. To create the base of the cake made of diapers, use as a center a toilet paper tube and accommodate 6 diapers wrapped around. Secure the diapers with a ribbon or with an elastic band forming a circle.
3. Place 12 diapers around the previous 6 and secure them with a ribbon or with another elastic band this will be the main base of the cake.
4. Now its time to create a second level. Place one of the rolled diapers as a center and place 7 diapers around to create a circle. This will be your second level of the cake. To prevent the center from moving, you can place wooden sticks or straws to secure the two levels together.
Its time to decorate the cake, using wooden sticks ribbon colored papers or any idea you have to decorate.
You can also replace the roll of toilet paper, using a bottle in the center of the cake as an extra gift for the baby.
