How To Store Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cake

The assembled Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cake can be stored at room temperature, under a cake dome or a large bowl turned upside down, for up to 1 day. Press a sheet of plastic wrap against any cut surfaces to prevent the cake from drying out. After that, cover the entire cake loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 2 days.

Can I make the chocolate cake batter and save it for baking later?

Sadly, no. The cake batter uses baking soda to leaven the cake. Baking soda reacts immediately with other ingredients in the batter to create bubbles that get trapped in the cake batter. These bubbles then rise up in the oven to give the cake rise and create its texture. If you let the batter sit for too long, these bubbles will pop and dissolve, leaving you with a flat cake.

Can I make the chocolate frosting and save it for baking later?

Yes! You can make the chocolate frosting up to 3 days in advance of making the rest of the cake. Follow the recipes instructions to make the frosting. Then, transfer it to an airtight container with a lid. Press a sheet of plastic wrap directly against the surface of the frosting to prevent a skin from forming, then cover with the lid. You can also freeze the frosting. Instead of an airtight container, scrape the frosting into a zip-top bag. Press as much air out of the bag as possible before sealing. Freeze for up to 1 year.

Dont Forget The Frosting

What cake would be complete without frosting??

I think this recipe for Hersheys Chocolate Cake is perfect with the accompanying homemade chocolate frosting recipe.

After all, we already discussed how chocolate cake and chocolate frosting are a match made in heaven.

But if you want to change it up, you could always turn to homemade buttercream frosting instead. would be a fun option, too!

Honestly, it doesnt really matter which frosting you use, because when theres homemade chocolate cake, you know everybody will be happy.

My Version Of The Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cake Recipe Tweaks The Chocolate Frosting

This review of the Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cake recipe argues that its frosting is too sweet. I also found myself agreeing with this critique. I was surprised to find that the original recipe contained no salt at all!

In general, a little salt goes a long way in baked goods. The salt balances out the sugar, and can make other flavors in the recipe more flavorful. I ended up adding a whopping ½ teaspoon of kosher salt to the frosting. That may seem like a lot, but it really helped tone down the sweetness without any coffee .

I also found that the recipe didnt make enough for a 3 layer, 8-inch cake. But that made sense. Because although Hersheys gives you the option to make the recipe in different cake pans, the original recipe is for a 2 layer, 9-inch cake. As a result, Ive tweaked the frosting quantities below to be more suitable for a 3 layer cake. However, definitely check out the FAQ below if you want to make this recipe in other cake pans.

Day : Make The Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Frosting And Assemble The Cake

First, make the chocolate frosting.

  • Prep the ingredients for the chocolate frosting. When making frosting, its especially important to make sure that your butter is at room temperature. Cold butter makes lumpy frosting that is difficult to frost and riddled with bumps!
  • Make the chocolate frosting. Making the chocolate frosting is an easy process. Simply sift together the confectioners sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Then, beat the butter until creamy, then gradually add the sifted dry ingredients, milk, and vanilla. Easy, right?
  • Then, assemble the cake.

  • Assemble the cake layers. Place one of the cake layers on a cake board in the middle of the rotating cake stand. Take an offset spatula and drop about ½ cup of the frosting right in the middle of the top of the cake. Spread it evenly all over the top, just like you would spread butter on toast. Repeat the process with a second layer of cake. Then, stack the third and last layer on top. Theres no need to frost this layer yet.
  • Finally, finish frosting the cake.

  • Make the cake pretty. Use an offset spatula to cover the cake with the remaining chocolate frosting. Then, use the spatula to make large, random sweeping motions across the frosting on the top and sides of the cake. The sweeping motions will create swirls. Dont overthink it! For this method, a little work goes a long way. I promise itll be beautiful no matter what you do.
  • What Ingredient Makes A Cake Rise Baking Soda Or Baking Powder

Both raising agents are used in this recipe to ensure it rises enough. The sponge itself contains oil, which is quite a heavy ingredient that normally creates a dense result. Using both raising agents together balance this out to provide just the right amount of rise.

If your cakes turn out flat, make sure you check expiry dates. Keep in mind both baking powder and soda will lose their effectiveness if kept too long in your pantry.

How To Make Fudge Brownie Recipe

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. and line an 8 x 8 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  • Place flour, cocoa powder and salt in a large mixing bowl, stir to combine. Place hot melted butter, oil, and sugars into a medium mixing bowl. Whisk until well combined, a good minute. Stir in eggs and vanilla, whisking another 2 minutes. Slowly stir wet ingredients into the dry ingredient bowl, gently stirring just until batter forms. Fold in chocolate chunks and transfer to baking dish. Spread evenly and bake for 22-26 minutes, until mostly baked through. If you want gooey brownies, remove at 22 or 23 minutes. Let bake longer for a more cooked brownie. Remove from oven and let cool for at least 1 hour before cutting into squares. Serve room temperature or warmed with a scoop of ice cream.
  • To start, place the flour, cocoa powder and salt into a large mixing bowl, stir to combine.

Slowly stir wet ingredients into the dry ingredient bowl, gently stirring just until batter forms. Fold in chocolate chunks. If you have a Trader Joes close by, look for the block of milk chocolate. This is what I use in cookies and brownies.

How To Make The Best Cocoa Powder Brownie Recipe

  • Preheat the oven to 350º. Spray the pan youll be using with cooking spray and set aside. If you are using an 8×8 pan, it would be helpful to line it with parchment paper. If using a pan with wells, this is not necessary.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the hot melted butter, canola oil, and sugar. Whisk for at least a minute so that everything is well combined, and the sugar is as dissolved as possible. Ad the eggs and vanilla and beat until the batter turns a lighter color, at least another minute.
  • Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until they are just incorporated. Be careful not to overbeat after you add the dry ingredients or your brownies will get too much air inside and be more cake-like than fudgy.
  • Use a large scoop to measure out the batter into the wells of your brownie pan or muffin pan.
  • Bake for about 20 minutes or until the top is just set. A tester inserted in the brownies should come out dirty but not wet.
  • If you have made your brownies in a pan with wells, you can pop them out and eat them while theyre still warm. If youve made them in an 8×8 pan, you will need to wait until they have cooled completely to room temperature in order to cut them or they will be too gooey and may fall apart.

How Do You Make Homemade Brownies From Scratch

I like to start by pre-heating my oven to 350 degrees and greasing a 13×9 baking pan. You can use parchment paper, which is fine if you dont have a non-stick baking pan, but just be sure to grease the paper, too.

When the pan is prepared, I go ahead and put the water on to boil. Then I mix cocoa and baking soda in a large bowl, then stir in the 1/3 cup butter. The butter needs to be room temperature, not melted.

After thats all mixed together, I pour in my boiling water and stir until the brownie batter mixture thickens.

Then you just stir in sugar, eggs and the remaining 1/3 cup butter and mix until smooth.

Add flour, vanilla and salt then blend completely.

If youre going to add-in anything, this is where youll stir in nuts or brickle or whatever. Just 1/4 cup of anything, or youre going to negatively impact the gooeyness factor.

Then its time to pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle with chocolate chips.

Bake 35-40 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the panor a toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean, whichever.

If youve doubled the recipe, you need to think about baking it for an additional 30 minutes, checking the brownies for doneness every 10 minutes or so.

But this recipe will make 2 dozen brownies, which is a lot. So, unless youre making these chocolate brownies for a party, youre probably good for this size
