It’s A Business Born From A Shared Love Of Baking

Established in 1997 by Dena Tripp and Debbie Shwetz, Nothing Bundt Cakes is the result of two friends’ shared passion for delicious desserts . Baking up tempting treats for their friends and family was a specialty of both women. When the two combined forces, however, those little hobbies started to morph into a burgeoning business.

Told by many that their cakes were unlike anything they had ever tasted, how could the two friends do anything but go into business together? Realizing that, at the time, there was a giant need in the baking world for delicious cake, readily available, that didn’t compromise on quality, the pair launched Nothing Bundt Cakes with a shop in Las Vegas. Per their website, even though Nothing Bundt Cakes is now a nationwide success with over 410 bakeries nationwide, it still maintains the warmth and nostalgia of it’s home kitchen roots.

How Did The Bundt Cake Get Its Name

Chocolate Bundt Cake – Everything Everything – In The Kitchen With Kate

    H. David Dahlquist was the founder of a company named Nordic Ware, which was based in Minneapolis and manufactured kitchen products. Two women named Fannie Schanfield and Rose Joshua asked Mr. Dahlquist to make an early example of a bundt cake pan in 1950. They were members of a Jewish womens service group called Hadassah.

The women were discussing how they missed the rich and dense cake they had when they were young, and thought that American cakes were too light. In order to get the European style dessert they loved, the women knew they needed a special pan with a hole in the middle. This type of pan helps bake all the batter and prevents the under-cooking of dense batter that occurs in a traditional baking pan.

Fannie and Rose met with the owner of Nordic Ware and showed him a ceramic kugelhopf cake pan. Dahlquist agreed to make a new pan, using the kugelhopf pan as a prototype. He changed its design by adding folds into the fluted edges and used aluminum to make the dish. Dahlquist took the German word for community, bund, and added a t to the end of it and trademarked it. Several months after the women met with him, he delivered the pans to Hadassah, where they were sold to the members for $4.00 each.
