The iconic ice cream cake in the 1980s and 1990s was the Viennetta by Good Humor, loved by kids and adults alike! It was the classic celebration dessert for special occasions in the ’90s. I love an after-dinner treat, every night haha! This dessert is rumored to be back in the United States this year, 2021, a return for almost 30 years, but there are none in the Southern California area, SO we had to make our own! Especially during the summertime I legit cannot resist a frozen treat.We love to make this for a sweet treat after a bbq!

I have got to say this is a blessing and a curse because this is SOO good and SOOO easy to make that I want to make it all the time! My stretchy yoga pants are getting tight now! LOL But in all seriousness, this is a great dessert to make with kids, my two-year-old niece loved making it!

Viennetta Ice Cream Is Returning To The Us For The First Time Since The ’90s

Launched as a Christmas specialty by the British brand Wall’s in 1982, the Viennetta ice cream cake is still a staple dessert in the United Kingdom to this day. However, though its “waves of soft ice cream and cracking chocolate flavor layers” grabbed Americans’ attention upon its release , it didn’t have the same staying power on this side of the pond.

Originally brought to the U.S. under the Breyers brand, Viennetta was discontinued here back in the 1990s, despite continuing its run elsewhere in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. But now, thanks in part to our never-ending obsession with ’90s nostalgia, Viennetta is getting another shot at having Spice Girls like success instead being America’s dessert equivalent to Take That.

As part of a list of “25 New Frozen Treats for 2021,” Wall’s parent company Unilever slipped in an announcement this week that the frozen treat will be re-introduced to the U.S., though this timeprobably more fittinglyunder the Good Humor brand.

“Fans have clamored for Viennetta’s return for almost 30 years, and in 2021, Good Humor grants their wish,” Unilever explained, before boasting that the ice cream cake “can make any day a celebration and is great for all special occasions: birthdays, holidays, BBQs, parties, or an after-dinner treat!”

In 2005, Glidat Strauss received special permission from Unilever to export their brand of ice cream to the United States because of the strict kosher certification the products in Israel have. Under terms of the agreement, Strauss ice cream and krembo may be sold only in kosher supermarkets and import shops. It is distributed in North America by Dairy Delight, a subsidiary of Norman’s Dairy.

  • Whip the cream until soft peaks form, then add the glucose, icing sugar and vanilla seeds. Whisk until the cream has a pipe-able consistency and holds up on its own. Put a star-shaped nozzle on a piping bag, then fill with the whisked cream.

If youre too young to remember this flavor or just missed out on it when it was first available, the cake consists of a frozen wavy white vanilla base in between crispy chocolate layers.

    This Ice Cream Cake is best started 2 days ahead of time

    For Vanilla Ice Cream Layer

    • 300g/10.6ozs cream, chilled
    • 225g/7.9ozs. sweetened condensed milk, chilled for 24 hours
    • Coconut flavouring
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla

    For Mangoes and Cream Ice Cream Layer

    • 1 cup/200g/7ozs frozen mango pieces
    • 2/3 cup/150g/5ozs caster or superfine sugar
    • 1/4 cup/60ml/2flozs orange and mango fruit drink concentrate
    • 1.5 cups/375ml/12.7flozs. cream
    • a few drops of orange food colouring

    For decoration

    • 1 2/3 cup/400ml/14flozs. cream, chilled
    • 3 tablespoons icing or powdered sugar, sifted
    • 3 tablespoons mango jam or mango curd
    • 2 tablespoons desiccated coconut

    The orange and mango concentrate

    Step 1 – Line a 26.5×7.5x.7cms/10.4×2.9×2.7inch loaf tin with parchment on the base and sides. Make the white chocolate layers. Melt the white chocolate in a microwave or double boiler on 70% power in 1 minute increments until melted. Add in the coconut oil and stir until smooth. Measure out a large sheet of parchment that will make 8 rectangles the size of the base of your tin. Spread out the chocolate very thinly using an angled spatula and then score lines before it sets. I pop it on a large tray in the fridge to hasten it setting.
