Or you could buy a yellow cake mix, nuts, sour cream and whip up a Sock It To Me Cake in your own kitchen for about $5. Same flavor and texture. Pillsbury Bake Off winner when grandma was a girl.

While I’m big on dupe recipes I’ve never been able to dupe My Grandma’s.

I’ve picked apart the recipe, the flavor comes from butter, sour cream, Madigascar vanilla and Mariani walnuts . It’s not a recipe I can dupe for $5.

I don’t buy them as often as I used to but they are a deelish treat for guests at the holidays.

Delivered to my door, freeze and one less thing for this girl to do!

Kachina624,. Thanks for the receipt. I will give it a try. My local Wegmans grocery store has sold My Grandma’s cakes for years. My family loves them. I love to bake and am frequently told that if I want to bake they will gladly share with me. Yours is well worth a try and I will use good ingredients. Imitation or cheap vanilla hurts a good came.

For these coffee cakes, it says “shipping included” which is NOT claiming “free shipping.” When you factor in the packaging cost, and 2-day express delivery, the Q’s price is not that bad.

I just found them at a local store and their price was $13.95 each.

This is another of our “southern” favorites. Grandma used to make this, we’d eat it warm with a little butter on top

• Mix oil, buttermilk, egg and vanilla.
• Add flour, sugar, soda, cocoa and salt.
• Mix all together well and add coffee.
• Pour into lightly greased and floured 8X13X2 sheet pan .
• bake 350F degrees for 30 minutes.

My Grandmas Coffee Cake

Steps:

• In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, sugar, and sour cream add eggs and vanilla and beat well. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl then add to creamed mixture beat well. Generously grease a 10-inch tube pan. Make topping by combining chopped nuts, sugar, and cinnamon. In bottom of the well-greased tube pan put about one-third of topping mixture alternate layers of batter and topping, ending with batter. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes.

• Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Liberally grease a 9×13″ rectangular baking dish with cooking spray set aside.
• In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugars, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt and whisk together until incorporated. Pour in the oil and stir to combine until moist crumbs come together. Reserve 2 cups of the crumbs.
• Add in the beaten egg, buttermilk, and vanilla to the original bowl and stir until a thin batter comes together. Do NOT overmix the batter some lumps are okay. Pour the batter into the prepared pan in an even layer. Sprinkle the top of the batter evenly with the crumbs.
• Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean or with moist crumbs. Cool about 15-20 minutes before cutting into squares to serve, or cool longer if you want prettier squares as this is a very tender cake!
