Pineapple Angel Food Cake
Recently I was trolling around Pinterest, as I seem to do more and more these days, and I came across a recipe that looked super easy and like it might not be TERRIBLE, and okay I was hungry. So I printed it out and the next day I went to the grocery store and bought the two TWO! ingredients I needed to make it. I cant find the original recipe, but I followed the instructions at Thats My Home . I imagine it originally came from Weight Watchers, but the recipe on the WW site calls for powdered pudding mix and Cool Whip, neither of which I used. An Angel Food Cake mix and a 20-ounce can of crushed pineapple. Thats ALL. You dont need eggs or oil or any of that stuff just the mix and the pineapple. Please note: you MUST use the angel food cake mix that is a single packet. Theres apparently an angel food cake mix out there that has two packets you mix together. That WILL NOT WORK for this recipe. You should be able to tell whether theres one packet or two by checking the directions on the back. Thanks go to Tina, who gave me the heads up on that little fact! Awww, Inspector Magoo! Obviously I made this cake and took these pictures before they went off to Petsmart. Empty the mix into a bowl, add the can of pineapple , and stir until its mixed. You could use an electric mixer I just stirred it by hand. Pour it into a 913 pan (the instructions didnt say whether to grease the pan first I used Bakers Joy, just to be safe, because I hate it so when cake stContinue reading > >

Sugar Free With Hermesetas
As mentioned above, it is thanks to the low calorie Hermesetas sweetener that this sugar free angel food cake is even possible. Since 1904 Hermes Sweeteners, the mother company, has been producing high-quality table top sweeteners. The latter comes in the form of little tablets, liquid and granulated sweetener.
This Swiss company, based in Zurich quickly gained popularity since its inception. In 1932, Hermesetas became the first branded sweetener in the world. Today, the company has produced special products for every purpose and has established brands.
The products themselves use high-intensity calorie-free sweetening ingredients such as saccharin, cyclamate or sucralose.

Impact Of Sugar Alcohols And Artificial Sweeteners
You must read food labels carefully to determine what could impact your blood sugar. Below are three examples of modified sugars you may find or add to desserts.
Artificial sweeteners are synthetic substitutes for sugar. Examples include:
- acesulfame potassium
- maple syrup
Natural sweeteners impact blood sugar just like other sugar sweeteners.
One exception to this rule is stevia, which the Food and Drug Administration recognizes as a food additive. Stevia is an extract that comes from the plant Stevia rebaudiana. Stevia can be added to desserts made at home.
Some products, such as soft drinks, have started to add stevia. Stevia is significantly sweeter than sugar and does not increase blood sugar levels. Brand name products that manufacture stevia include Truvia and Pure Via.
There is less clinical research on newer sweeteners such as these, so long-term effects are still being determined.

Smart Ways To Indulge In Sweets
Try these tips from diabetes nutrition experts to include sweet treats in your healthy eating plan.
1. Allow yourself the occasional treat. Deprivation isnt likely to work, says Karen Lau, a registered dietitian and CDCES at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. Completely eliminating treats from your diet may backfire, and you may end up craving those foods more, notes Lau.
2. Plan ahead. Consider how many carbs youre getting in your meal, not just in your dessert, says Tami Ross RD, CDCES, author of What Do I Eat Now? A Guide to Eating Well with Diabetes or Prediabetes and a spokesperson for the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists . That total number should factor into your calculation of what you will eat on days you have dessert or a sweet snack.
Make sure the meal is balanced with other foods. Cut out carbs from the main dish, and save it for dessert instead, says Lau. For example, if youre planning to have dessert, skip the bread, pasta, or side of mashed potatoes at dinner.
3. Be mindful of sugar-free foods.Kristen Smith, RDN, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, suggests choosing foods that dont list sugar in the ingredients and have sugar substitutes instead. But keep in mind that these foods are often still made with flour and other carbohydrate-containing ingredients, says Smith.

What Sweet Things Can A Diabetic Eat
If you are anything like me, you probably like most of your desserts to be sweet. Savory desserts can be awesome as well, but its hard to beat a sweet dessert to end a great meal.
I have written a very detailed guide to the best sweeteners for people with diabetes that covers most of the natural and artificial sweeteners on the market. I highly recommend reading it, but if you only want the cliff notes, my favorite sweetener that doesnt impact blood sugar is Stevia.
