- Betty Crocker Super Moist Devils Food Cake Mix You can use any chocolate cake mix, but this is one of our favorites.
- Hersheys Kisses We bought the party bag so there would be more than enough for the recipe. Youll need at least 3 cups of Kisses.
- Vegetable oil or softened butter
- Heavy cream

How To Decorate Cakes Like A Pro
A crumb coat is a sure fire way to not have any crumbs in the frosting! To do this, simply apply a thin layer all over your Hershey chocolate cake.
Then, refrigerate so it sets and gives you a smooth surface to decorate on. Or, leave it as is if youre a fan of the naked look on your baked goods.
If youre planning on doing a more elaborate decoration on the Hersheys chocolate cake, place the frosted layer cake in the fridge and allow it to set for 20 to 30 minutes. This will allow you to decorate around the edges with ease.
I use Wilton piping tips, the 32 and M-1, but you can use a variety of tips to get the final look youre going for!

Making The Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cake Recipe Even Better
First, I tried the original Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cake recipe without any modifications. I wanted to see if, after all these years and a cookbook later, Id changed my mind. I also wanted to see if I would agree with any of Jesses criticisms against the recipe.
To my surprise, I STILL thought that the original, unmodified Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cake recipe produced a delicious cake. I especially loved the super soft and moist cake crumb. I thought the chocolate frosting was a dream to work with. Its texture was super silky and creamy, making the cake easy to frost!
But that being said, I also understood where Jesse was coming from. I could see why he thought the cake was overly moist and sweet. So in my version of the recipe below, I updated the Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cake recipe to address some of his major criticisms. Learn more in the next section!

Why Is My Bundt Cake Sticking To The Pan
A common issue with bundt cakes is that the top of the cake sticks to the bottom of the pan. If this happens, dont beat yourself up! It happens to the best of us! The good news is that it is usually preventable!
There are a few steps you can take to help ensure that your bundt cake doesnt stick:
- Use baking spray that is a combination of oil and flour it is specifically designed for baking and making cakes easier to get out of the pan
- Dont overfill the pan with batter leave about 1/2 headspace.
- After you pull the cake out of the oven, give it a good shake. You want to see the cake loosen up and move around freely in the pan. Then you know it is unstuck.
- Before flipping the cake out of the pan, allow it to cool to room temperature. However, you dont want to leave your cake in the pan for hours as this gives it too much time to sort of attach to the pan.
Adding Coffee To Chocolate Cake
One of my tips for really pumping up the chocolate flavor in this easy chocolate cake is to add some coffee. Even though I am not a coffee drinker, I find it gives great depth to the chocolate flavor.
This Hersheys chocolate cake recipe calls for one cup of boiling water. The cup of boiling water is a perfect place to sneak in some coffee.
Not being a coffee drinker, I dont go with a full cup of coffee. Instead I add about half a packet of instant coffee crystals to my boiling water. I usually use the Starbucks Via Instant coffee. These are great to keep on hand for baking.

How To Make The Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cakerecipe
Whenever I bake a layer cake, I break down the recipe to make its different components over multiple days. Why? It can be really time-consuming to make the cake all in one day! First, you need to bake the cakes and wait for them to cool completely. Then, you need to make the frosting, assemble the layers and frost a crumb coat, and wait for it all to set. After that, you need to finish decorating the whole thing! You can see how this recipe is turning into a full days worth of work.
To make sure Im not stuck in the kitchen all day, I broke down the work for the Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cake recipe over two days. Heres what I did:
To Make The Chocolate Ganache
Heat 1 cup heavy cream until steaming but not boiling!
While cream is heating, rough chop 2 cups Hersheys Kisses. Add to a heat-safe mixing bowl.
When cream is hot, pour into the mixing bowl with chocolate pieces. Whisk until smooth and shiny.
You can add more chocolate for thicker ganache or more cream for a thinner consistency, depending on your preference.
Pour over cake as much or as little as youd like. We used it all! Can you ever have too much chocolate?

What Makes Chocolate Cake Moist
This perfect combination of oil, milk and boiling water makes this recipe stand out without having to use melted chocolate. The fats in the oil, protein in milk and temperature of the water makes the chocolate flavour develop nicely while baking and providing the essentials for that moist crumb youre looking for.
Dont over-mix OR over-bake. This chocolate cake only needs about 30-35 minutes in the oven, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
How To Make Chocolate Cake
The world famous Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate Cake recipe ticks all your chocolate-loving boxes: EASY, QUICK AND AMAZING RESULTS.
TIPS: Sift the dry ingredients into a large bowl first to get rid of any hard lumps caused during storage, while getting more air into the mixture.
Then add in your wet ingredients. Just keep in mind that the cake batter is VERY thin. Dont be tempted to add more flour as this is what makes the cake super soft and moist.
The ONLY thing you can add to this already perfect cake recipe is a couple teaspoons of instant coffee or espresso for an even deeper chocolate flavour. Of course, this is totally and COMPLETELY optional. You cannot taste the coffee flavour.
Super-fine cake flour can be used if you have it for an even softer crumb but is not necessary.

Easy Chocolate Bundt Cake Made With Hersheys Kisses
I realized a while back that even though I am a notorious chocolate-lover, my blog didnt have any legit all-chocolate recipes.

Hersheys Cocoa, Hersheys Syrup and Hersheys Milk Chocolate Candy Bars all come together to make this the Ultimate Triple Chocolate Hershey Pound Cake!
School started back today. I no longer have a child in the Elementary School. Just the Middle and now 2 in High School. My babies are growing up.
Heres how the day went. I wake up at 5am. I smell the coffee brewing Open the bedroom door to see my son already showered and ready. This day is starting off really well. Number 2 child is in the shower and just a few minutes later Im hearing #3 childs alarm clock go off. Everyone is awake and smiling. The older 2 are out the door at 5:40am. Youngest is off to catch the bus at 6:20am. Im checking facebook at 6:30 am and I realize, my house is quiet!
Now this could be the end of the story but I have to run up to the high school to check on #1 sons schedule. I pop out the door at 6:50am get there by 7:10 And yes, I could have driven the older 2 kids but I wanted to make sure the bus knew to stop for them and if you miss that first day on the bus, a lot of times the driver might think those kids wont be riding.
Im back home before 8am. And so begins our school year.
The best part of the day? As each child came through the door Mom, Im home! Excited to tell me all about their day, the other kids, the teachers. Still smiling. Its going to be a good year.

I think this recipe for Hersheys Chocolate Cake is perfect with the accompanying homemade chocolate frosting recipe.
After all, we already discussed how chocolate cake and chocolate frosting are a match made in heaven.
But if you want to change it up, you could always turn to homemade buttercream frosting instead. would be a fun option, too!
Honestly, it doesnt really matter which frosting you use, because when theres homemade chocolate cake, you know everybody will be happy.
How To Make Whipped Cream
For the final layer, you can use cool whip or ready whip from the store, but nothing beats making whipped cream from scratch.
Using a stand mixer or electric hand mixer, whip heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla in a mixing bowl on low speed just until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to over whip, or the cream will start to clump
Add the whipped cream to a piping bag fitted with the star piping tip. Use this to make rosette shapes around the edge of the pie.
To finish the pie off, sprinkle mini chocolate chips over the top. You can also melt half of the chocolate chips and drizzle the melted chocolate over the top of the pie.
Allow the pie to set in the fridge for at least 2 hours before enjoying.

Would This Recipe Make Good Cupcakes
Yes! Hersheys even has a guide on how to use this recipe to make cupcakes. This recipe will make 30 cupcakes.
1. Make the batter using the same method listed below.
2. Line a cupcake tray with cupcake liners .
3. Fill liners full with the batter use a pitcher or ice cream scoop to prevent spills.
4. Bake at 350°F for 22-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
5. Allow to cool for a few minutes before moving cupcakes to a wire rack to cool completely.
Can I Freeze Cheesecake
You can store your Hersheys cheesecake cake in the freezer, if desired. First, flash freeze it, uncovered, for 1 hour. Then, wrap the whole thing tightly in plastic wrap. Place the wrapped cheesecake in an airtight freezer bag or wrap it again with aluminum foil. You can also freeze individual slices. Thaw completely in the fridge. Frozen cheesecake will last for up to 4 months.

Fluffy Vanilla Frosting Recipe
1/2 cup butter or shortening5 cups confectioners sugar1/8 teaspoon salt4 to 5 tablespoons milk
Cream butter, 1 cup confectioners* sugar, vanilla and salt in large mixer bowl. Add remaining confectioners sugar alternately with milk, beating to spreading consistency. Makes 3 cups frosting.
2-1/4 cups unsifted all-purpose flour1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda1-1/3 cups buttermilk or sour milk*Burnt sugar frosting
Stir together cocoa and boiling water in small bowl until smooth set aside. Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla in large mixer bowl blend in eggs.
Combine flour, baking soda and salt add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture. Blend in reserved cocoa mixture.
Pour batter into two greased and floured 9-inch or three 8-inch layer pans. Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes for 9-inch layers, 25 to 30 minutes for 8-inch layers or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool 10 minutes remove from pans. Cool completely. Fill and frost with Burnt Sugar Frosting.
* To sour milk: Use 1 tablespoon vinegar plus milk to equal 1 cup. Have milk at room temperature before combining with the amount of vinegar indicated in the recipe. Let mixture stand several minutes before using.
How To Make Chocolate Cake:
Mix Dry Ingredients. Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl.
Addwet ingredients:. Eggs, buttermilk, oil and vanilla and mix until well combined.
Add boiling water. Stir to combine . Pour batter into prepared pans.
Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow cakes to cool in the pan for a few minutes before inverting onto a cooling rack. Cool completely before frosting.
Assemble and Frost: Place one cake layer on serving tray. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Add second cake layer. Frost top and sides of cake with remaining frosting.

Best Cake Making Technique Tips
- For even cake layers, I like to actually weigh out the layers with a digital kitchen scale to make sure theyre even. The easiest way to do this is to set a prepared cake pan on a digital scale and tare it to 0. Pour batter into the pan until the scale registers the weight listed in the recipe . Repeat with the second and third cake pans.
- Use a large, fine-mesh sieve to sift ingredients for the frosting. Its the fastest and easiest way to sift ingredients! All you need to do is place the fine-mesh sieve over a bowl. Then, dump the ingredients that need to be sifted into the sieve. Use a whisk to stir the ingredients until they pass through the bottom of the sieve and into the bowl below.
How To Make Chocolate Pudding
You can make this rich chocolate cream layer in 2 different ways, by making chocolate pudding from scratch, or by using store bought instant chocolate pudding.
To make chocolate pudding, add milk, sugar, cocoa powder, corn starch, and vanilla extract to a medium saucepan. Stir well to combine, then heat on low-medium heat. Stir at least every 30 seconds until the mixture has thickened.
Remove from heat and place the pudding in the fridge to chill. Stir occasionally to help it chill faster.
Now you can work on the vanilla cream layer while the pudding cools.
