That is a really, really good question, and the short answer is the shape. If its baked into a loaf, its bread. If its baked into a round cake pan, its a cake. There are minor differences from recipe to recipe, but overall they are more similar than different. Even the baking times are similar.

Even Mr. Leibovitz cant say for sure what makes this tasty banana flavored dessert a cake or bread, which makes us feel a little better about our confusion.

How To Store Banana Cake:

  • Serve: if you keep it covered, you can leave banana cake at room temperature for up to two days as long as you dont frost it. So dont worry if you accidentally left the cake out last night, it will still be fine. If you frost the cake with the icing it must be refrigerated since it contains both cream cheese and yogurt.
  • Store: your cake will be fine in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze: in an airtight container, you can freeze cake for 4 months. When thawing the yogurt in the frosting may cause it to break, so if you know you will be freezing part of this cake I recommend leaving it unfrosted.

Almond Vanilla Lemon Cake

The second cake that I am discussing here is the Almond vanilla Lemon cake.

The ingredients are :

Fresh lemon Zest ¼ teaspoon

Honey ¼ cup

All purpose flour ¼ cup

Salt ¼ teaspoon

Vanilla yoghurt ½ cup

Steps for preparing batter and baking

Step 1 : Take a bowl, and then add eggs to it. Make sure that the eggs are at room temperature.

Step 2 : Grate some zest of lemon directly into this.

Step 3 :Add honey to this and then beat this mixture until it is fluffy.

Step 4 : Add vanilla extract and almond extract to this mix and continue beating.

Step 5 : Add baking powder to this mix.

Step 6 : Add the all purpose flour after filtering and mix well with a spatula.

Step 7 : Transfer this batter into a cake pan and tap gently to remove air bubbles. Make sure that you grease the cake pan and also keep butter paper at the base and the sides to avoid the cake sticking to the pan.

Step 8 : Preheat the oven for 10 minutes at 180 degrees.

Step 9 : After this place the cake pan in the oven and then bake the cake for 30 minutes at 180 degrees.

Step 10 : You can insert a clean toothpick to check the cake while its baking. If the toothpick is clean after inserting, the cake is ready

Step 11 : As soon as you take out, pour the skimmed milk into this cake, and let it absorb it. This will make the cake very spongy and soft.

Step 12 : After you take the cake out of the pan, apply low calorie vanilla yogurt on this cake.

Step 15 : Your cake is ready to be served now.

This cake really doesnt need anything else with it. I usually grate a little dark chocolate over the top and Im done.

But if they happen to be in season, why not pile some strawberries or other fresh berries on top just before serving?

Frosting a whole cake can seem daunting, but with these couple of tips youll have a beautifully frosted healthy carrot cake in no time:

  • Cool before frosting. Make sure you follow the directions as written and wait until the cakes are completely cool before frosting them. After they are frosted, I recommend storing carrot cake in the fridge for optimal freshness.
  • Do a crumb coat. Do a crumb coat for the frosting first by frosting the layers as you normally would and then coat the outside of the cake with a very thin layer of frosting then place in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before you finish frosting. This is so that the crumbs stick to this layer of frosting and not your main layer.
  • How Do You Make A Healthy Chocolate Cake

    Healthy Chocolate Fudge Cake

    Could this cake get any better? Not only is it a healthier chocolate cake recipe, its so quick and easy to make. Even the sweet potato part is simple!

    Heres what you do.

    Step 1: Prepare the sweet potato. Cook a medium sweet potato in the microwave until soft . Then split open the skin and scoop out the flesh. It mashes really easily with a fork, or if youd prefer to get it completely smooth you could pulse it for a few seconds in your food processor.

    Step 2: Whisk the wet ingredients into the sweet potato.

    Step 3: Stir in the dry ingredients .

    Step 4:Pour into a springform pan lined with baking paper.


    Step 5:Bake for 18 minutes for the best results. I know thats very specific but you want the top to be set but the inside still a little gooey.


    Step 6:Let cool completely. Make the frosting while youre waiting!

    I know, Im cheating a bit by calling this a 30 minute cake. You do of course need a bit of extra time for cooling and adding the frosting!

    Its no secret, I LOVE baking all kinds of easy, delicious, healthy desserts and cakes for special occasions: Secretly Healthy Chocolate Mousse Cake, Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownie Skillet, Vegan Sugar Cookies, Vegan Raspberry Brownies are just a few of my favorites. This Healthy Carrot Cake though, is the best way to welcome Spring!

    Eggless Oats Brownies Cake

    The fourth and final cake that we are learning today is the eggless oats brownies cake.

    Ingredients are:

    Cashew nuts 5 1to 10 pieces

    Oats ½ cup

    Salt one pinch

    Steps for preparing batter and baking

    Step 1 : Add ½ cup of oats to the bowl and soak it in water for sometime until the oats absorb the water and keep aside.

    Step 2 : Add cashews to another bowl and soak in the water.

    Step 3 : After soaking finishes, take a jar, add oats and cashew to it.

    Step 4 : Add water, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, dates, baking powder, salt and half portion of banana into the jar.

    Step 5 : After adding all ingredients, blend it well until they form a smooth paste.

    Step 6 : Grease the cake pan with butter and place the butter paper on the base and sides and transfer the batter into the cake pan. And also add dark chocolate to the top of the cake along with some oats.

    Step 7 : Preheat the oven for 10 minutes at 180 degrees.

    Step 8 : After this place the cake pan in the oven and then bake the cake for 30 minutes at 180 degrees.

    Step 9 : You can insert a clean toothpick to check the cake while its baking. If the toothpick is clean after inserting, it means the cake is ready.

    Step 10 : Let the cake cool for 10 minutes and take it out of the pan. Also make sure that you remove the butter paper.

    Step 11: The chocolate added at the top would be melted now and in a creamy texture. This can be finished using a spatula. Your cake is ready to be served now.

    Ive also made this cake with my Paleo Vegan Chocolate Fudge Frosting and it so rich and luscious! It uses chocolate chips so its not refined sugar-free but still not terribly unhealthy, in comparison to other recipes.

    Double the recipe if you want enough to fill the middle + the top. Triple it if you want to have enough for the sides.

    How Do You Make A Healthy Smash Cake

    After you prepare the fruit puree, combine it with the milk, egg and vanilla extract, and then gently combine it with the dry ingredients. Pour the cake into your prepared pan and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. I made my cake using this adorable little 6 springform pan I found at Zest Kitchenware. You can also get one from .

    Once the cake was cool, I used dental floss to create 2 layers. You could also use two 4 1/2 pans and have an automatic double layer. There is probably a more sophisticated way to create layers, but I love using dental floss. It works so well!! Hold both ends of the floss taught in your hands and just pull through the whole way.

    The icing for the healthy smash cake is simply unsweetened whipping cream with a tablespoon of maple syrup. You could also add a little of the leftover fruit puree for some color and extra flavor. I liked the idea of a bright white cake. Prepare the whipped cream no longer than a few hours before youre going to frost and serve the cake, to ensure it holds its shape.

    If youve got a baby approaching the big 1 youll be happy to know that you can have all the fun of a smash cake without all the junk! I can confirm that my little buddy had no complaints about his very own healthy smash cake!
