Tips For Making The Best Giant Cookie Cake:

How to Make A Giant Cookie Cake ~ Soft n Chewy Recipe
  • You want to make sure and leave plenty of room around the edges of the pan because the dough will expand and it would create a mess if it spilled over. Try to make an 8-inch circle in a 12-inch pizza pan.
  • I feel like other types of dough would be fun to experiment with like sugar cookie, and macadamia nut. This can go beyond chocolate chip cookie dough!
  • I used store-bought frosting and my Kootek cake decorating tools to frost this cookie cake around the outside, and to write the words Happy Birthday.

Once cool, remove from the pan, and decorate as desired with frosting and sprinkles. Enjoy!

I love that this delicious cake is also a money-saving hack!

The inexpensive supplies that I bought for this cake set me back less than $10 while a Mrs. Fields brand giant cookie cake can cost around $45! Thats a big savings, and I can make it at home at my convenience.

You can cut it up into triangle pieces just like you would with cake. My cookie was perfectly chewy and soft in the middle. I honestly love cookies more than cake and would be excited to eat this on my birthday! You could even skip the frosting and maybe serve it warm with vanilla ice cream-YUM!

Heart-shaped balloons, heart-shaped bibs for your baby, and even heart-shaped dinner plates. All that’s left is the perfect heart-shaped dessert, but where can you get a heart-shaped cookie cake?

I know. It’s like I’m psychic. Look, cookie cakes are the food of the angels, OK? There is nothing pretentious about them, they’re easily adaptable for any holiday, and, good God, they are delicious. Cookies are pretty much a food group in my opinion, so when you make a giant one and cover it in luscious frosting? Ugh. Just marry me already, cookie cake creators.

And for Valentine’s Day? It’s a no-brainer of a dessert. Adults and children alike love the festive confection, and enjoying on in the shape of a heart makes it the sweetest addition to your dessert table. My boyfriend is obsessed with this dessert, so I’m half-tempted to toss out gifts I bought and just ship him a giant, heart-shaped cookie cake.

Single on Valentine’s Day? Fabulous. Now you don’t have to share the festive, soft, chewy cookie cake of your dreams. How Do You Keep A Cookie Cake Moist

Pay attention, chewy cookie lovers! Ensure that this cake stays moist by not overbaking it. After 20-25 minutes, this cookie should come out of the oven. It may look a little soft in the middle, but it will continue to bake for a few minutes after being removed from the oven thanks to the carryover heat.

Faq: Tools To Make A Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

Do I need a special chocolate chip cookie cake pan?

No! Like I said above, I developed this recipe specifically for a 10- or 12-inch skillet. You can also bake the chocolate chip cookie cake in traditional cake pans or a springform pan.

Traditional cake pans are usually 8- or 9-inches wide, while springform pans are typically 9- or 10-inches. If you make this recipe in a smaller cake pan, your cookie cake will come out thicker than mine. You may also need to increase Bake Time for a few minutes to adjust for this thickness. In general, thicker baked goods take longer to bake.

Alternatively, note that I made this recipe in this 10-inch skillet. If youre using a 12-inch skillet, your chocolate chip cookie cake will likely be thinner than mine. You may need to decrease Bake Time check for doneness at 18 minutes instead of the 20 minutes listed in the recipe.

How To Make Cake Mix Cookies

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake with Chocolate Fudge Frosting
  • Preheat your oven. 350 degrees F is the magic number.
  • Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper. Using two cookie sheets will make the process go faster than using one because you can’t drop cookies on a hot sheet .
  • Mix together the ingredients. Add the box of cake mix, 2 large eggs, 5 tablespoons unsalted butter and 1/4 cup water to your mixing bowl. Mix well with your wooden spoon or rubber spatula until the batter is smooth and combined. If you’re sticking with the original cake mix flavor, that’s all there is to it.
  • Add mix-ins. Add up to 2 1/4 cups of your favorite mix-ins and gently stir/fold them into the batter with your spoon or spatula.
  • Drop the cookies onto the baking sheet. Using your cookie scoop, a tablespoon measure or your hands, drop cookies that are about 1 tablespoon large onto the cookie sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake the cookies. Bake, rotating and switching the positions of the baking sheets halfway through, until the cookies start to turn golden brown on top, 8 to 10 minutes Repeat with the remaining cookie dough.
  • Store the cookies. When the cookies are completely cool, put them in a container with a tight lid, sliding parchment paper between cookie layers. Store them at room temperature for 3 days. Or freeze for up to 2 months.

    Slicing Into This Cookie Creation

    Lisa Kaminski/Taste of Home

This oversized treat is a cinch to slice and reveals a gooey, chocolatey inside. As for the flavor, this cookie cake tastes, unsurprisingly, like your favorite chewy chocolate chip cookie or blondie bar. The bit of buttercream on top is just perfect. Its sweet, but since its used sparingly, it doesnt overwhelm.

Topped with frosting and sprinkles, this cake is ready for a party. However, making this oversized cookie was so easy and quick that I just might make it instead of traditional cookies. No portioning out individual cookies, no shuffling pans in and out of the oven. Make one of these cookies plain and serve it up with ice cream for a simple dessert thats just as tasty as a classic chocolate chipper.

    Make A Basic Cookie Dough

    Lisa Kaminski/Taste of Home

Making a cookie cake is very simple. You make the dough for this bake just like you would with any other chocolate chip cookie recipe. That means starting by creaming together the softened butter and sugars. Then add in the egg, egg yolk and vanilla, and mix until nice and creamy.

Next, add in your dry ingredientsflour, cornstarch, baking soda and saltand mix until just combined. Then, mix in a whole cup of chocolate chips.

Once the dough is together, you can go straight to the oven, but I prefer to let it chill for a bit in the fridge first . Letting the dough hang out for a minute can really help the flavors developits the secret to great shortbread. If youre tight on time, though, you can go right into baking.

Ingredients In Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

I combine my 2 favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes to make todays chocolate chip cookie cake chewy chocolate chip cookies and soft chocolate chip cookies. Lets review what ingredients youll need:

    • Flour: All-purpose flour is the base of this cookie cake.
    • Cornstarch: Cornstarch creates an exceptionally soft and thick cookie cake. I add it to my soft chocolate chip cookies and to this cake, too! This soft-baked cookie cake will melt in your mouth.
    • Baking Soda: Baking soda helps the cookie cake rise.
    • Salt: Salt adds flavor.
    • Butter: Use room temperature butter. You can soften butter quickly with this trick or set the butter out 1-2 hours before you begin.
    • Brown Sugar: We skip granulated sugar and use all brown sugar for an ultra soft and moist cookie cake. Youll love the extra molasses flavor.
    • Eggs: Taking what I learned from my chewy chocolate chip cookies, we use 1 egg and 1 egg yolk for the chewiest cookie cake. The extra egg yolk also adds tenderness and extra richness to the cake.
    • Vanilla Extract: Pure vanilla extract adds flavor. Try homemade vanilla extract.
    • Chocolate Chips: This cookie cake is studded with chocolate chips 1 and 1/2 cups total. Use 1 and 1/4 cups for the batter and 1/4 cup for decorating.

Pastry Flour For Cookies Vs All

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake with Chocolate Fudge Frosting

Cake flour and all-purpose flour are similar as they are both made from wheat flour. However, they are milled differently for different purposes.

All-purpose flour is milled for many different foods such as pasta, cookies, donuts, pizza dough, muffins, bread, cake, and much more and has a protein content of 10-13%, and since it has a lower protein content, it provides less gluten. In return, this leads to a tender, more delicate texture as the gluten is weaker. In addition, a chlorination process works to also break down cake flours gluten.

Cake flour, on the other hand, is milled to be specifically used for cakes and is made from soft winter wheat that has been very finely milled. It has the lowest protein content in flours, at 7-9%.

How Do You Store A Cookie Cake

Just like most cookies, this giant cookie cake is best stored in a large, air-tight container. The whole cake can be kept in a cake or pie keeper or even put under glass in a cake dome. Individual slices can be put in smaller containers or even zip-top bags.

If you cant finish the cake within a few days, you can stash extra slices in the freezer for up to a year. This treat is easier to store without the frosting, but buttercream can last in the freezer for up to two months.

    Cake Flour In Cookies Recipes

There are many different types of cookies out there, each as delicious as the next. The majority of cookie recipes will call for all-purpose flour. However, there are cookie recipes out there that do use cake flour.

Sugar cookies are another types of cookie that can vary largely in texture. They can be soft, cakey, chewy, and even crispy. Cake flour can be a great option to use for your sugar cookies in place of all-purpose flour. The consistency will be thicker and fluffier than normal sugar cookies.

Tools You Need For Cake Mix Cookies

    How to make Cookie Cake

Measuring cups and spoons: There are two kinds of measuring cups, wet and dry. Wet are clear and have a spout and markings up the side. Dry measuring cups are metal or plastic and nest inside each other. Youll get a more exact measurement when you use wet for liquids and dry for flour, sugar, etc. Measuring spoons come in a cute set, usually held together with a ring.

Mixing bowl: A 5-quart bowl is the best size youll be able to use it for any baking recipe.

Wooden spoon or rubber spatula: This is all you need to mix the batter, no hand mixer necessary.

Cookie sheet: this can be a flat or very shallow-sided cookie sheet: if it has shallow sides, it will be a great multitasker for roasting vegetables or making sheet-pan dinners. Parchment paper: always a good idea for cookies: it allows you to pull an entire sheet of baked cookies off in one easy sweep. Dont toss it after just one use: you can use it multiple times.

Cookie Scoops : Yes, you can use a spoon to drop the dough on the cookie sheet, but if you use a small spring-loaded scoop, every cookie will be the same size and will baking evenly.

Spatula: Our favorites are silicon because theyre super flexible , can go in the dishwasher and can be used against a hot surface without melting.
