What Happens If You Add Too Much Icing To Cake Pops

The solution is to reduce the amount of icing in cake pops so that they are not mushy and the truffles are grainy. The cake crumble is not my favorite, so I substitute the frosting with a creamy smooth ganache to bind it. In the end, the grainy texture is left behind, resulting in a luxurious finish.

    Melt Dip Stick Smooth Chill

Now, melt some of the Candiquik, candy melts, or chocolate chips/bars. I have used all three types, I really like the consistency that melted Candiquik gives. You cant go wrong with candy melts though. Or even using your favorite kind of chocolate.

I use the microwave to melt the Candiquik. I either use the defrost setting on bursts of like 45 seconds then stir, or use the hi setting and do bursts of 30 seconds and then stir, until the chocolate is nice and melted, you may also use the double boiler method.

After that dip your treat stick into the Candiquik, about 3/4 of an inch, then stick it into your cake ball, about the same far. Dont poke it too far, we dont want it coming out the other side.

Now you can smooth out the chocolate that you like with your finger, purely for aesthetics. Next, place those in a piece of styrofoam or a cake pop stand, and then into the fridge for 10 minutes. This will help the chocolate firm up and give some stability to the cake ball.

You will be left with a bunch of un-dipped homemade cake pops.

*Note if you pick the cake ball up and turn it over you will have a little flat part which is a great place to stick your lollipop stick.

Why Did My Cake Balls Fall Off Their Stick

Dont skip dipping lollipop sticks in the frosting before inserting into the ball. This helps the sticks stay put in the balls as they harden. Not inserting the lollipop stick deep enough will cause them to fall off as well. Finally, make sure your lollipop sticks arent too thin, as you need a thick enough stick to hold the weight of the cake balls. My go-to lollipop sticks are pictured above.

Tips From The Betty Crocker Kitchens

    • tip 2 You can customize this cake using any colors of candy melts and choosing complementary flowers. For instance, make red and white cake balls, swirled with dark cocoa candy melts, and decorate the cake with red roses.
    • tip 3 If you dont have a decorating bag, use a small resealable freezer plastic bag. Fill the bag with melted candy, cut off a tiny corner of the bag and squeeze bag to pipe the candy on the cake pops.

How To Get A Smooth Finish

Here are my tips for getting a smooth finish on your OREO cream cheese balls:

    • Have all your dipping supplies set out so that when youre chocolate is melted, you are ready to go. The key is to move quickly!
    • Make sure that your chocolate is melted and stirred until smooth. for more tips and tricks for melting chocolate.
    • Place your OREO cookie ball on a fork. Then dip into the chocolate or use a spoon to coat the ball.
    • Gently tap the fork on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate and create the smooth finish.
    • Use a toothpick to help push the ball onto the parchment paper. Draw a line around the base of the ball with the toothpick if there is extra chocolate. The chocolate will break off easier once hardened.

How Do You Make Cake Balls

The first step to making cake balls is to bake a 9×13 cake. I always use a cake mix because there are so many flavor options, they always come out moist and delicious, and its just so easy. The cake gets crumbled up before its mixed with the frosting, then shaped into balls. You can make your cake balls as big or as small as you like, I typically go for about 1 1/2 inches in size.

Dip Turn Tap Those Cake Pops

Once our homemade cake pops have firmed up it is dipping time! Melt more chocolate, I usually only do one color/flavor at a time. If you are using a more shallow bowl, tilt the bowl of chocolate, then dip your cake pop into it.

Use a spoon to cover the ball if needed. Now rotate the cake stick, and gently tap the stick with your finger, this will allow the excess chocolate to drip off, and rotating ensures a nice smooth covering.

You may also use a deeper more narrow glass. With these you can usually just dip straight down and come up with it, then do the rotating and tapping.

Once done place your cake pop back into the styrofoam or cake pops stand and let the chocolate set. If using traditional chocolate you may want to put them in the fridge for a few minutes to help the setting process. If not, by the time you are done dipping the last one, most of the others will have completely set.

How Far In Advance Can You Make Cake Pops

How to Make Cake Pops with cake mix – Quick and Easy recipe without moulds

CAKE BALLS : The cake mixture can be prepared a couple days in advance and kept in the refrigerator until ready to use. You can even form the cake balls a day ahead and let them chill in the refrigerator for easier dipping. If you want to prep your cake balls and freeze them, store them in a large freezer bag. They can be kept frozen up to 6 weeks. Let your cake balls come to room temperature before dipping. ***SEE BELOW WHY CAKE POPS CRACK***

COATED CAKE POPS OR CAKE BALLS: Dipped cake pops decorated with Candy Melts can be stored at room temperature for a week. If you use white or dark chocolate, store them in the refrigerator so the chocolate doesnt melt.

FREEZING CAKE POPS: Once the cake pops are dry, place the decorated cake pops in a freezer safe zip top bag. They will stay fresh up to 6 weeks. When ready to use let them thaw overnight in the refrigerator.

Why Do My Cake Pops Fall Off The Stick

If your cake balls are falling off your treat stick, they could be too heavy due to size or adding too much frosting. To help ensure your cake balls stay, be sure to dip the stick in melted candy before inserting it into the cake ball. This hardened candy coating acts as a glue to hold the stick in place. If you think youve added too much frosting, add a little more cake to help even out the texture.

Making Cake Pops With Leftover Cake

Using leftover cake to make cake pops is the best!! We dont have leftover cake in my house very often, but when we do, its on and poppin!

That leftover cake turns into cake pops, and then all of a sudden, people are in the mood for cake again! Isnt it funny how you can put something on a stick, and everybody wants it?

When making cake pops with leftover cake, you want to scrape off the frosting first and place it in a bowl.

You definitely wont need all the frosting. Crumble the cake up and then add in the frosting a little at a time until the cake can hold its shape once formed into a tight ball.

These cake pops are what I consider cake pop perfection!!! They are the best cake pops Ive ever had. The texture is fluffy AND moist, and it was nowhere near as messy and time-consuming as my first attempts at making cake pops.

Now, if youre looking for a tutorial on how to decorate cake popsugh, Im not the girl for the job!! Sprinkles is as good as it gets over here : )

Even without fancy decoration, these cake pops can still make a pretty cute, cheap, and festive gift idea! Let your imagination run wild!
