Gluten Free Cake Mix: For the cupcake in the ice cream cones, use your favorite gluten free cake mix and frostings. I like Betty Crocker Gluten Free Devil’s Food Cake Mix and Pillsburys version.

I like the contrast of chocolate cake with the yellow cones and white frosting.

However, you can use Pillsbury Funfetti Gluten Free Premium Cake & Cupcake Mix with Candy Bits or Betty Crocker Gluten Free Yellow Cake Mix instead.

If you have another brand of gluten free cake mix, feel free to use it. Its totally up to you!

Gluten Free Frosting: I used Pillsbury Creamy Supreme Vanilla Frosting. Its my favorite store bought frosting as its easy to pipe and tasty.

Also, all Pillsbury frostings are gluten free, so you certainly can use a different color or flavor in your ice cream cone cupcakes.

Do you smile and get giddy like a 2-year old when you see a cupcake that is disguised as an ice cream cone? If you dont, you may want to check for a pulse, because I probably could have named this post happiness in a cone. I first made ice cream cone cupcakes back when I was a teen summer camp counsellor looking after pre-school aged kids. The utter joy the campers got from helping to create these and gobbling them up was priceless. As wise and mature teenaged counsellors, we made sure to serve these to the kidlets right before we sent them home with mom and dad so we got to experience the joy, and parents got to deal with the resulting sugar high afterwards *insert evil laughter*.

Whats in it? This simple recipe involves gluten-free cake mix from Pamelas Products, egg-replacer from Ener-G, homemade frosting, and gluten-free cones from Lets Do. These cones look just like its gluten-filled original except the texture is slightly little less crunchy but still delicious. These cupcakes would be perfect for a birthday party for kids of any age I actually made these for my own birthday which happens to be next week. You can do just about any combination you would do for a normal cupcake the options are endless. This version happens to be gluten/nut/egg/dairy-free so almost allergen-free but still super yummy. A rare combo indeed.

Are Ice Cream Cones Gluten

Most ice cream cones are not gluten-free. Both sugar cones and waffle cones typically use flour as a base, meaning most of them contain wheat products. But for those suffering from celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, there are many gluten-free ice cream cones that you can find at the grocery store or online!

When I was little my mom would always make ice cream cone cupcakes for parties. I love the texture of the cupcake and the ice cream cone together. The perfect combo of soft and crunchy.

When I found gluten free ice cream cones on a BOGO sale, I knew it was the perfect chance to see if it would work to make this gluten free. I used the Joy brand , but they have THESE on Amazon that should work as well.

Ill be honest, this is more of a tutorial than a recipe, but they were just so much fun I couldnt help but share!

How To Serve & Store

Serve gluten free ice cream cones once completely cooled.

Top with your favorite ice cream, dairy free ice cream, frozen yogurt or gelato!

These cones are sturdy so feel free to add toppings! Sprinkles, gummy bears, nuts, Oreos and whipped cream are all great options.

Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days. I do not recommend storing these any longer.

Think youll make ice cream cones cupcakes often? Then get an ice cream cone cupcake holder!

I bought theBetty Crocker Ice Cream Cone Cupcake Baking Rack. It worked great for the gluten free ice cream cup cones.

Unfortunately, the gluten free ice cream sugar cones were too long for this rack. I had to prop the sides of the ice cream cone cupcake holder over a baking casserole pan to get enough height when baking.

So, I recommend getting a Wilton Cupcake Cone Baking Rack as it can be used with both gluten free sugar cones and gluten free ice cream cup cones.

Its also a more attractive ice cream cone cupcake holder for serving your cupcakes.

Adding the batter: When putting the batter in the cones, fill up the cup cones 2/3 of the way and the sugar cones 1/2 of the way.

Since I chose to serve my sugar cones flat and not in a rack, this gave me enough room inside the ice cream cone for plenty of frosting and sprinkles!

If you like, place a real on top. If youre bringing these ice cream cone cupcakes to a potluck, add the cherries just before serving.

How many cupcakes will you make? One box of cupcake mix made 24 cones and 5 extra cupcakes. Make sure you have enough sprinkles, frosting, and cherries, if youre using them!

Bake ahead! You may notice that your ice cream cones are soggy after baking. To avoid this, bake the cupcakes the night before.

Then place them in a 350 degree oven for 4-5 minutes. Let cool, then decorate.

The trick to making these is to use foil over your cupcake tin and then make holes so that gluten free ice cream cones fit into it standing up. You dont want them to fall over. I really should have taken a picture, but I completely forgot. Next time!

Fill the cones up about to the line where the cone becomes bigger at the top, approximately 2/3 and bake according to your mix directions. I was afraid the cones would burn, but they dont.

Then just add your favorite frosting- again, I bought it. There are several gluten free brands that are all pretty good. Feel free to make your own if you have time.
