Brown sugar is an unrefined or partially refined form of normal sugar, and it gets its brown color due to the presence of molasses. Often considered the better version of white sugar, is brown sugar gluten free? Can celiacs have brown sugar?

Brown sugar is gluten free. Brown sugar is made from normal sugar by mixing it with molasses. Again, molasses are the byproduct of sugarcane or sugar beets that are also inherently gluten free.

    Preheat oven to 325. 1 Hour 14 minutes

    Line 2 or 3 loaf pans with parchment paper.

    Cream butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add the sugar and zest, then beat on high speed for 3-5 minutes–“until light and airy”, my original recipe says. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each addition and scraping down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula as needed. Add the vanilla and citrus juices and mix well. Then add the flour mix, xanthan gum, and salt all at once. Mix until well blended.

    Pour the batter into the prepared pans and shake lightly to even out the top. Bake until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the cake comes out clean–about 1 hour and 14 minutes. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely before serving.

    Serve with fresh berries and whipped cream or on its own. Cover leftovers tightly.

    This cake is good on the first day, but it is really good after it’s been allowed to sit for a while. I’d suggest making it 8-24 hours before you want to serve it. If you just forget to make it early, though, it’s not the end of the world. It tastes good just an hour out of the oven it’s mostly the texture that improves with time.

    Before this cake has been sliced at all, it will stay fresh for days if wrapped tightly and stored at room temperature. This special cake can even be stored in the refrigerator, if the weather is warm and youre concerned about its spoiling.

    I like to bake these cakes in 2 aluminum 8-inch round cake pans. They bake evenly in about 30 minutes at 350°F, and never dome even if my oven has some hot spots .

    If you’d rather bake the cake in 9-inch cake pans, just reduce the baking time accordingly. You’ll have to watch it carefully after the initial 20 minutes.

    Don’t bake in a dark colored pan or in a glass pan. They attract and conduct too much heat, so your cake may burn on the bottom or the edges before it’s baked all the way through to the center.

    If you’d like, you can also use 8-inch square pans. The baking time should be the same as with 8-inch round cake pans.

    How Much Sweetener Do You Need
