She is the eldest of four siblings, and is of Polish, Irish and Jamaican descent. At Haddam-Killingworth High School she was a cheerleader,lacrosse varsity captain, and host of her high school’s broadcasting program. She played lacrosse for Eastern before committing full-time as a member of its dance squad and as anchor of its network show TV22. Kostek is a certified barre instructor.

Kostek started her professional cheerleading career at age 19 with the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League.

She landed the cover of its annual Swimsuit Calendar which was shot in Saint Lucia in 2014. In addition, Kostek has featured in advertising campaigns for Patriot Place, and served as spokesperson for the cheer team in various television shows and public engagements.

Let’s start with the decorations, the banner is a must-have and so adorable! I started with a black and white striped banner from Hobby Lobby .

I used my silhouette to cut the ‘C’ and ‘Q’ letters, as well as the football helmets. I’ve included the files in the free printables library, don’t worry! After you attach those to your banner, you’ll need to make your pom poms! All you need for these little cuties are two vinyl table covers. Leave them folded when you open them and cut a rectangle about 6″x 9″ with multiple layers.

  • Balloon pop gender reveal. Fill an opaque black balloon with pink or blue confetti then when you pop the balloon, the flying confetti will reveal all.

  • Balloon box. Pack a handful of blue or pink helium balloons in a giant box. Then, as you open the lid, the balloons will float out to reveal your baby’s gender.

  • Gender reveal piñata. Buy or make a piñata that’s filled with blue or pink ribbons and glitter, and have your guests take turns trying to break it.

  • Pass the package. Wrap a blue or pink baby outfit in layers and layers of gift wrap. Ask a helper to play music as guests pass the gift, stopping the music every so often. When the music stops, the person holding the package can unwrap one layer. Eventually the gender reveal surprise will be unwrapped.

  • Gender reveal cake. What is a gender reveal party without cake, right? Delight your party guests by baking a cake that has pink or blue filling. When you cut a slice of the cake, your guests will finally find out the gender. Another option is to bake cupcakes that will reveal the gender with the first bite.

You’ll need to decide whether you want to find out your baby’s gender alongside your guests. If yes, ask the sonographer to write down “boy” or “girl” on a piece of paper instead of announcing the gender during the ultrasound, and ask someone else to organize the gender reveal moment.

I think gender reveal parties are just feeding an expanding culture of baby purchasing, thinks Federica, 31-years-old and a Public Mental Health and Nutrition researcher at Imperial College.

To Federicas point, a cursory google of gender reveal party throws up a full range of themed paraphernalia, from £30 gender reveal starter packs, through to a £125 Hollywood light-up gender reveal sign. The commercial prospects are fantastically endless for this rapidly expanding market. Its profiteering at its finest.

Its a bit like the wedding industry, she remarks, where savvy manufacturers put a premium on their products if its for a wedding, because they know you will pay. The baby industry might be worse, though, because it preys on peoples vulnerabilities at what can be a particularly daunting time.

If you want to celebrate and you can afford to, then a baby shower probably covers it, she finishes. Gender reveal parties are just another way for the outrageously lucrative baby industry to make even more money.
